TAG IDAHO_LIBS RULEText ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IDAHO LIBERTARIANS AND ACTIVIST CONFERENCE (IDAHO_LIBS) OBJECTIVES, GOALS, PURPOSE and POLICIES ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ OBJECTIVES: idaho_libs is an "internal" (Idaho only) discussion forum for use by Libertarian Party of Idaho members, activists, and those wishing to participate in promoting the Libertarian Party of Idaho, individual candidates for public office, and every other matter inherent in promoting these goals and objectives. At this moment, we are NOT endorsed as an "official" organ of the Libertarian Party of Idaho. This is a moderated forum, although it is not the intention, as such, to limit discussion in a free and open manner insofar as topical matters remain consistent with promoting the above goals and objectives. At the same time, this forum is a "closed forum", and is open only to actual residents in the State of Idaho, members or activists of the Libertarian Party, or those interested in taking part in promoting our activities and objectives. Additionally, bonified Idaho residents who would like to participate and tune in to what we are all about are welcome to do so. This is NOT a forum for discussing other political platforms outside of the Libertarian Party of Idaho and its affiliates elsewhere, including the national Libertarian Party of the U.S. There are other discussion groups better suited for open discussion outside of these parameters, and some of these will be listed below, as ADDENDUM II. All requests for subscription to this conference may or may not be approved based upon the following two criteria: 1. State of Residence: Idaho 2. Party of choice: Libertarian (or those interested in providing such support) GOALS: I. To promote the Libertarian Party of Idaho by bringing those individuals together who have an interest in coordinating and discussing building the State Party, activities and functions, and supporting endeavours contributing to educate others to support our goals and objectives. II. To facilitate communication and discussion by the overall membership of the State Party, and others who wish to assist in these purposes, to achieve the maximum coordination to the extent in which this is possible. III. To identify activities such as, but not limited to: a. LP of Idaho participation at county fairs, gun shows, and other community, county and regional events; b. Political meetings, of an ecumenical nature in which various political discussions centre on the issues of the day, and supporting matters of individual choice and liberty; c. News and press releases intended for local newspapers to support the LP of Idaho and candidates for public office; d. Regional support for local activities to maximize the use of limited resources; e. Promoting regional LP of Idaho "conventions" and meetings to help coordinate matters at the local, grassroots level, prior to the State Convention. f. Supporting county and regional LP Committees in an effort to build a stronger organizational structure and identify candidates to run for public office at all levels; g. Discussing State Platform issues, and promoting a Libertarian orientation toward addressing specific State political issues in that overall context. POLICIES: 1. Membership and participation on this forum are confidential to the maximum extent possible. Anyone agreeing to participate assumes that confidentiality of the overall membership and will not make any attempt to provide names, email address or other personal information to third parties for any purpose whatsoever without the permission of individual members concerned. 2. Topical discussion is ANYTHING that is recognized as appropriate discussion from a Libertarian perspective and as it it applies to the State of Idaho and the Libertarian Party of Idaho. A. Administrative and policy matters pertaining to the governing of this Conference are always "off topic" and should not be entertained here. Such matters should be directed to the moderator in private email. 3. Those residing OUTSIDE of the State of Idaho, wishing access to this conference, will be considered on a case by case basis, in a "read only" capacity. Such out of state requests will normally not be approved however unless a compelling necessity is provided, such as offers of other LP state-affiliate parties who may have a genuine interest in what we are doing as an aid in promoting their own Party structure, or the national LP who may wish to observe how we do things and what is going on in the LP of Idaho. 4. Human dignity and respect. It is assumed that all participants will communicate in a responsible, adult fashion, and respect the dignity of every other participant who chooses to participate. Therefore, character assassination, flamethrow- ing, denigrating of individuals, salesmanship behaviour designed to promote other agendas, proselytizing and religious discussions designed to promote those interests, and other matters unrelated to promoting the Libertarian Party of Idaho and those objectives, go beyond the purpose of this conference and accordingly are considered grossly "off topic". These policies will be posted once each month to this conference, and wherever any updates or modifications are made. Anyone questioning these policies of procedures, or seeking changes and additions, should contact the moderator in private email. Frank M. Reichert Moderator Chairman, First Legislative District, LP of Idaho ============================================================== ADDENDUM I: SUBSCRIBING - UNSUBSCRIBING We are run essentially by a semi-automated subscription mechanism that allows for moderator intervention and approval or disapproval of subscription requests. Eventually we will be adding a web site to facilitate this mechanism as well, where subscription requests and unsubscription requests can be accommodated at a web site nearest you. In the meantime, here's how it all works: 1. To subscribe or unsubscribe: Send an email message to: libnw@dmi.net with the subject line as follows: subscribe idaho_libs, or, unsubscribe idaho_libs (as appropriate). 2. To facilitate approval, in the body of the message give your real name and City, State. Your address is optional. Next, identify your interest in the Conference, whether you are Libertarian, or wish to support the Libertarian Party of Idaho's goals and objectives, or have an interest in learning more about the party and what we are doing. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ADDENDUM II: OTHER LIBERTARIAN-ORIENTED POLITICAL DISCUSSION GROUPS LIBERTY NORTHWEST CONFERENCE & NEWSGROUP: Liberty Northwest is a regional discussion group formed to promote libertarianism in the Pacific Northwest, although it is open to a world-wide audience as well. It has a moderate to heavy load of daily traffic, and is most likely the largest libertarian-oriented political conference in North America. There is no limiting on topics of discussion, nor on who participates. Anyone from any perspective whatsoever can subscribe. It is also available on three simultaneous platforms, Fidonet, Usenet Newsgroup, and by email subscription. 1. FIDONET: Your sysop can AREAFIX Liberty Northwest from a hub carrying the Fidonet Z1 Backbone, with the "keyword" (upper case) LIB_NW (exactly as here written). Your Fidonet BBS sysop must have access to Backbone traffic. 2. USENET NEWSGROUP: Available from the following news server: news.spokane.wa.us. Netscape and MS Explorer users will have to add this server, then point to "groups" and subscribe to: spk.liberty_nw. 3. EMAIL SUBSCRIPTIONS: Send a blank email message to: libnw@dmi.net with the subject line reading: subscribe libnw LIBERNET and LIBERNET-d: These are companion groups with different purposes, and they have historically been the rather "official" national platform surrounding the Libertarian Party of the U.S. LIBERNET is more for official national LP business, news releases and other matters, while LIBERNET-d is the companion group for actual wide-range discussions covering almost any topic coming into focus with libertarianism at all. Both of these groups originally were gated into the Fidonet echo LIBERTY. This is no longer the case, and LIBERTY is not used at this moment since it never achieve Fidonet Backbone status and no BBS wishes to support it as I speak. It is listed in the Fidonet Echolist, since it is supported currently in that form by Liberty Northwest, but there has been no usage for years. The LIBERNETs also have all but disappeared and traffic is next to nonexistent at this time. Both are available only via email subscription at this time: Send a blank email letter to: majordomo@listserv.prodigy.com with the subject line: subscribe libernet or subscribe libernet-d LIBERTALK and LIBERTALK-d: Hosted by the University of Michigan, it too has very little traffic on a day to day basis. At the administrative level, I have not been able to talk with anyone for several months. The list still exists, but participation levels are next to zilch and the number of current subscribers is unknown. To get more information, send an email request to: listserv@umich.edu. OTHER LIBERTARIAN NATIONAL USENET NEWSGROUPS: alt.politics.libertarian and talk.politics.libertarian are both alive on the national Usenet Backbone and can be picked up virtually anywhere news is available. Somewhat related Civil Liberties newsgroups are: alt.society.civil-liberty and alt.society.civil-liberties (almost identical traffic, take your pick on the last two). The first two also have a lot of crossposting between them. Spam is there on all of these, but not as bad as most of the alt. groups. _____________________________________________________________________ LIBERTY NORTHWEST CONFERENCE & NEWSGROUP "The only libertarian-oriented political discussion conference on the Fidonet Z1 Backbone..."
