  I am sorry to see the FidoNet dying.   It has always for me meant
dialing into the local BBS, and DL'ing the latest chatter from where
ever.    I always regretted that when my dialup BBS was on, I wasn't
able to get it hooked into FidoNet.   I didn't like those who called
a BBS to check and see if their messages were in the system.

Of course when I did Network the BBS, it was with another BBS, and
we grew into something called  LakeNet that went all over the
world in such a short time. Now that was fun.

As for Amateur Radio, well Andy, I am always up ASP to check my
Packet messages, as well tune into 80meters to see who is as crazy
as me to be up.  But then I am using purely a radio for each
of my early morning habit forming addictions.

I have a new thing on the packet, now, and that is searching via
whatever I hear, to see if anyone has their mailbox online to
drop a message into, from a pre-typed message I have.   Surprising
how many packeteers have their mailboxs turned on.   Unfortunately
they seemed not inclined to answer, which defeats the reason for
the hobby, which is communications over the radio.

  I am still on 2meters Andy.   I have echolink ...but 80% of the
time I am scanning all the repeaters that I know can be accessed
from the USA to the south.   Some repeaters in Toronto, are linked
via RF to Buffalo NY USA, so the range is greatly extended, and
it is great having a enjoyable chat.

  Anyhow...thats my 2 cents .... hang in there!
