That is not a quality error but only an adjustment that is accessible
in every FM transmitter. Since we changed to 12.5 kHz channel spacing
(was 25 kHz) we have adjusted the deviation of all FM transmitters.

I have no experience of their handhelds but I own two Yaesu allmode
transceivers, one in my car and one at home. The only hickup was with
the LCD-display freezing stiff in the car when the outdoor temperature
went below minus 10 degrees (10 F). It was easily cured though. If the
transceiver is left on it doesn't happen. It only uses 70 mA in standby
and that doesn't affect cold starts in the morning.

Where does the selectivity come in for receive sensitivity?

You talk about light use but your experience indicates very heavy use!
