I have to agree.  we were recently discussing qualifications for voting at our
ares group. All are welcome to be members, but those that actually have votes
have to pass fema is100; arrl ec level I and actually participate in nets
meetings and drills.

the subject of whether to just count the weekly local ares net or to include
the medical services net as well was brought up.  I said I could see counting
the med services net if there was actually some training going on with it.
somebody told me that for some the "training" was just knowing how to switch on
and connect their radios and get on the right frequency. Needless to say that
elicited a belly laugh from yours truly.

Worked the MEmphis marathon with our local club last weekend.  TOo many folks
don't know about the ID requirements, and I heard a lot of ten four, signal
four, qsl and other garbage. THen there's net control who doesn't give me a
readback or acknowledgement of any kind that he copied my medical traffic.

<hrrrump>  DUmb it down, make it easy for the know nothings to get a license.

THis is why during Katrina while I'm trying to get a medevac for a critical
patient I've got some dipstick sending inbound health and welfare inquiries on
the tactical net. Needless to say, I reminded ncs that some of us were actually
trying to save lives and didn't have time for stupidity.
