Ärende: Dial-up + FTP

Hi, Frank!

19 Aug 04 16:35, Frank Vest said to Alex Shakhaylo:

 FV>> via dial-up (POTS) using TCP/IP would be great. It would be
 FV>> greater if the server could distinguish between a TCP/IP,
 FV>> standard BBS and IEMSI connect and act accordingly.

 FV>> Ok. I've probably been about a clear as mud. I hope I wasn't too
 FV>> confusing. :)

 AS>> But it is already possible using TAPI to call a system with
 AS>> Radius/Taurus using your favourite dialer and to connect
 AS>> remote RAS in case it is activated. All mailer can do in this
 AS>> case is to pass a modem connect to RAS and so it does !

 FV> I just set up a "Dial-up Networking" connection from one computer to
 FV> the other via modems. both systems running Win98. One running Radius
 FV> and the other making the client call via the dial-up networking in
 FV> windows 98. Radius failed to handle the TCP/IP password, logon and
 FV> such. :(

But of course !

Radius itself cannot offer tcp/ip because of windows design. But ..
it can hand off a modem connection to RAS in case it is (mailer)
configured to use TAPI and in case RAS service is invoked.

Dialup->ports->COM port->TAPI (instead of port name)->
direct acces - check off->intercept shared calls - checked on.

Then Dialup->Lines->Your line->Port->Your TAPI device

Under such conditions *us will hand off RAS calls to RAS

This feature is available since Febr or March. I use it
at my /700 node to connect mailer and to connect internet
depending on what I'm dialling with.

 FV> However, I think we are not understanding here. I'd like Radius to
 FV> offer TCP/IP via something like a PPP or SLIP connection/account via
 FV> dial-up.

It is possible to use the same modem and the same phone line
to connect mailer and to establich PPP (slip), but you need to
configure TAPI device and setup *us to use it.

But ..

Be ready to meet some unexpected problems. TAPI is designed
so that modem init string doesn't work. You need to properly
initialize modem in windows ("phones and modem" icon of Control
Panel).

As additional bonus you can use your internet dialler (or other
TAPI-aware aplications, for example MS fax), not switching off
mailer's line. In a log file this looks like:

* 20-Aug-2004 01:19:57 OK
  20-Aug-2004 01:19:57 Initializing modem
  20-Aug-2004 01:19:57 OK
* 20-Aug-2004 01:38:15 TAPI: line is busy

> here I started dialler

  20-Aug-2004 01:39:22 TAPI: line is free

> here I stopped dialler

  20-Aug-2004 01:39:22 OK

And modem line's log should look like:

  19-Aug-2004 15:08:56 Using log file e:\fido\log\RD.log\Rd.LOG
  19-Aug-2004 15:08:56 Running under: Windows NT 5.1 (build: 2600)
