Ärende: Tarus and *.msg

FV> I was told to just say it, and here it is. :)

FV> A. When a mail tosser runs and processes mail to go out to
FV> another Node, the tosser creates an empty Archmail attach.
FV> This serves no purpose except to tell the mailer where the

FV> B. If a File attach message is created, generally by a human,

FV> C. If a Netmail is created without a file attached, the

 ml> exactly...

FV> In any case, the message (*.msg) file can be left on the

FV> This is the "Kill" in FD.

 ml> correct...

FV> The file, if one is attached, can be delete/sent, or

FV> In the case of A, the *..msg should be removed by the mailer

ml> the question is what is "it"? the MSG or the file? some are trying to

Opps. My bad. Once the /file/ is sent. What happens to the .msg is up
to how the .msg was flagged. If "kill" was flagged, then remove the
message. If not, the make it as sent and leave it there. FWIW, I've
not seen an .msg (archmail attach) that wasn't marked as "kill" with
the Delete or Traunc sent.

 FV> If the
FV> transfer was not a success, the msender retains the attach
FV> message for the next attmet to send the file. At least, the
FV> attach message should be marked by the mailer as "sent".

ml> after the /mail bundle file/ is sent? yeah, i guess at minimum...

Yes. A little unclear by me, but you got it. :)

FV> In the case of B and C, if the message is left on the sender's
FV> system, the message is marked as "Sent" so that it will not be
FV> sent again. Otherwise, it is removed.

 ml> right...

FV> Now. That's the way I see it. I have no idea if the *.msg is
FV> sent to the receiver, but I have seen this happen. To me, it
FV> is a waste since the directory in a file attach message has
FV> no meaning to the reciver's system. If I send a file from mt
FV> d:\up\yours directory, the reciever most likely won't have
 FV> that directory. :-)

ml> decent mailers will change that directory to the local inbound
ml> directory where the file arrived into ;)

True, but then the receiver has the .msg to deal with. I'm not real
clear on the specs for this part, but my feeling is to not send the
.msg, just the arcmail file.

FV> Here's a status (I guess that is the terminology) of a file
FV> attach message on my system (FD) right now:

ml> what kind of file attach? arcmail mail bundle or just some file that
ml> is being sent to another system?

Bre packet in this case. However, for some reason, Synchronet's tosser
marks the arcmail the same. <shrug>

FV> Local Pvt File Kill Del/sent

FV> From right to left. Created locally, Private, Kill the *.msg,
FV> Delete the file when successfully sent.

FV> JMHO, Take it, leave it, argure it or drop dead. You choice.
 FV> :-)

ml> i've had no problems other than using KS and/or TS instead of KFS
ml> and/or TFS... that mistake has served to confuse others and create
ml> what some seem to think is a debate... i apologise for the confusion
ml> by my mistake and can only say to others who think everything is a
ml> debate, get a life... they're in serious need of one if all they can
 ml> do is debate everything...

Just an attempt to clear the air a bit. I hope I didn't make it worse
and you understand that the reply was not directed at you, but to all
in the discussion. :)

Regards,
Frank
