True!  meantime, I'm home for most of the day but have to go to work by 8pm.  I
wont be back til Friday and have to go away on Sunday through probably the
next friday then I'll be home or on vacation for a glorious 6 weeks.

oh definately!  Sasebo is a small place, might be a big city stateside, but has
a small town feel and is small by Japan standards.

Hehe was definately fun and we will do more things like that as well as
'burgers on the pier' (we have BBQ gear, tons of it).  We will meet the
10,000$ goal I am sure.  That will cover the rental cost for the local
Harborview club, meal prices offset as much as possible, and then about 10$
per child for a gift from Santa?  Might be closer to 7$ per child gift.  Note
the 10,000$ is just the amount the First Class mess is raising.  The CPO mess
will cover the adult party which is a separate event with a matching 10,000$
or more and any excess they come up with will be added to the kids event.  The
Officers will also fund raise bu they are a smaller group and more apt to just
split what they come up with among the 2 parties.

Last year, the Officers held a raffle for 'who has the best junior sailor'
with them paying for their own favorite candidate and garnered something like
2,000$ (50/25/10$ going directly to the 'winning junior sailor' as a gift
certificate at the exchange and the rest to the party efforts).  With only
some 60 Officers, you can see they put up a fair amount personally for this
<g> as well as contributing to the First Class mess and CPO mess efforts.
