I keep hearing that, but there's very little evidence to support it.
Note, for example, that after leaving Apple Jobs started a company that
shipped a machine which had a stock 2-button mouse, while Apple - absent
Jobs - didn't suddenly decide to go with the flow. Meanwhile, Jobs'
acceptance of the multi-button mouse for NeXT systems apparently wasn't
a religious conversion because on coming back to Apple he took 7 years
to introduce a stock mouse that _could_ be treated as a multi-button
device and (again I'll admit to being puzzled by this) doesn't offer
that option on the portables yet.

It seems to me that any fanatacism on Jobs' part about the one-button
mouse on the Mac may have been rooted in an understanding that there was
a valid business reason for making that the stock device. A business
reason that didn't disappear when Steve got neutered 16 months later
after the Mac shipped or when he left 4 months after that.

14 inch monitors were "pretty much standard" in 1984 and earlier? Not my
recollection at all. I don't think I sat down in front of a single 14"
display before 1988 or so. The black-on-white text scheme was admittedly
a significant deviation from the norm at the time.
