I'm not saying that you can't pass laws -- as you say, we already have
them, and I'm not proposing making most of these things legal anyway,
just decriminalize them. What I'm suggesting is that it's impossible
to make /effective/ laws without banning glue and whipped cream, and
that we shouldn't be wasting money and law enforcement resources on
ineffective attempts to prevent low-impact abuse. 

I mean, just yesterday I read that the police raided a fraternity and
carted off two students for possession of pot. And a search yielded
this:

"The fate of a Temple University fraternity is uncertain after a
police raid last Thursday that resulted in hundreds of citations for
underage drinking.

"Between 20 and 25 police officers entered the Pi Lambda Phi
fraternity house at 2000 N. Broad Street, around 11:15 p.m. and cited
270 people for underage consumption of alcohol, according to Temple
University Police. 

"There was in excess of 400 people at the party; approximately 200 of
those cited were Temple students, Temple police Lt. Robert Lowell
said."

I mean, what planet are these people from? Do they seriously think
they're going to turn college students into tea-totalers?

We could probably accomplish more by spending some of the wasted law
enforcement money on education and anti-drug advertising.
