Thursday

Marvel Civil War Panel:

Your intrepid reporter was at the Civl War panel yesterday. Seems like most of
the audience is liking it a lot. I'm not going to attempt a full report since
I'm only following the JMS titles for this one...though I may pick up the Front
Line ones too. http://www.newsarama.com/SDCC06/Marvel/panel_cw.html has a
pretty
good report posted as well as a lot of other SDCC comics related things.

I did tape it so if you have any specific questions I can try to find it on my
tape.

Friday

Spider-Man Then and Now:

I somehow managed to get into the room for this one despite a huge crowd. The
room seats 1,000 people, I've heard. I was unlucky about my seat, though, as I
was right next to where the line for the mike to ask questions was. Ordinarily
the questioners are polite enough to crouch or kneel so as to not obstruct the
view but not in this case, despite being asked. This was especially annoying
when JMS did an 'impression' of Sue Storm the Invisible Woman by crawling under
the table.

The panel consisted of Joe Quesada, Stan Lee, Romita Sr., Romita Jr. JMS and a
man who's involved with the Spidey movies whose name I didn't catch.

It was mainly a love-fest. The fans love Stan, Stan loves the Romitas and JMS
and Joe Quesada. There was some reminiscing about how Stan would act out the
characters and scenes and how he'd type standing up. When asked how he managed
to do so many comics as he had, he said he'd had an advantage, he was also his
own editor and biggest fan so the approval process went quickly.

JMS on Writing:

The writing session was quite interesting. Some of the questions were fairly
common (what's your writing schedule) and some were quite different ranging
from
"How do you know if you've got talent?" to specifics about agents and
copyrights. JMS was informative and direct in his answers. I'll try to do a
transcript of this one.

The session was only supposed to be an hour but nobody called a halt so it went
over by about 20 minutes. I think it could've gone on much longer if not for
the
fact that JMS had a signing scheduled.

Other Stuff:

When I got to the signing area (one of the best set-ups I've seen, BTW) there
was already a considerable line. Still, JMS goes through lines quickly and
there
are always people to talk to all around you while you wait. I noticed that this
time he wrote on the table very early on that he wanted a 10 item limit. I
only
saw one full set of script books but several single volumes.

One other thing he put on the table were some business card size "Never
Surrender Dreams" cards and a note on the inside of the box to take one. Nice
little things-mine will be going up on my monitor at home.

I'd almost forgotten the tentative item at the He-Man panel but caught the
final
few minutes. If JMS had been there, he'd left already. I was sorry not to have
the chance to meet Larry DiTillio and see if he'd sign some script pages I'd
brought but I wasn't even sure which panelist he was. Unfortunately there
wasn't
any group signing scheduled for that panel group.

Oh, and I snagged a G'Kar fan for Amy!

This afternoon is the Spotlight session and hopefully the announcement about
something new in the B5 universe.
