I haven't looked at the programming at all! I'm sure I'll hit some of
the science panels. Probably some of the Star Trek anniversary
programming. Mostly, though, I'm sure I'll spend lots of time with
friends (old and new). I'm going to try to make it to the WSFS
Business Meeting 'cause there is some interesting stuff going on.

BNF, Filthy Pierre has this big message board system that he puts up
at every con he attends. He gets a membership list and puts
everyone's name on it. You check in on the board so anyone can come
by and see if you are at con or not. You can leave messages there as
well. There is also usually a section to post flyers and whatnot.

As some of you know, the Worldcon http://www.worldcon.org is hosted in
a different city around the world every year. A group of fans gets
together and goes crazy..erm. decides they want to put on Worldcon.
They do the basic legwork and then try to convice the rest of us that
their city and facilities are the best place to host a Worldcon. Then
we vote (2 years out...we are voting on 2008 this year). Next year,
Worldcon is in Japan. Not likely that Jay and I will go but maybe we
will win the lottery.

Anyway, part of convincing the rest of us, is throwing parties at
various cons so you can show all the cool stuff about your city, your
facilities and your potential convention. And ply the voters (your
fellow fans) with food and drink.

Jay and I and other folks decided to bid for Babylon 5 for 2258 (Talia
made a comment about working a convention in a first season episode).

So, we made bid books (support us now so your great, great grandkids
can attend the (Inter)Worldcon on Babylon 5!) Had mugs made and threw
a hellaciously great party in 1996. Jay and I packed up the station
wagon with slabs of ribs, cooking gear and drove across the country
(we lived in NC at the time). We had a majority of the original 9
moderators plus many, many of the proponants and supporters of
rastb.m. It was great fun. Gharlane gloated that no one knew who he
was and taunted us by describing each of us. If only he were around
to attend this one.

>Sorry to hear you've been sick. That especially sucks when you're
>just starting a new job.

Thanks! There's apparently something going around and I managed to
catch it. But I will be all healthy and stuff for Worldcon.
