Except that people do emigrate there to find a better life, and there
should be more young children among the lurkers, anyway, because they
would not have access to birth control, and hence more likely to have
"unexpected" pregnancies. Unless there were other factors, such as
increased radiation in downbelow, that would cause miscarriages, etc.

I just think the whole family thing is simply not addressed in the
series - because then the series would be about something other than
what it was.

Even if you are "stationed" somewhere, if you're not in a combat zone,
you tend to bring your family with you. Haven't you seen the family
housing on/near every single military base we have?

I figured the lack of children was more a budgetary issue in terms of
show production - because with children under a certain age, there are
restrictions on hours, and you have to provide tutors, and other
expenses that you don't need for adult cast members.

I mean, you don't see a lot of little kids on "Smallville." either.
And a small Kansas town would be rife with "breeders" and kids in
strollers, and toddlers and elementary school kids running underfoot.

I've always been pleased that many of the main characters on B5 still
had living parents (and that some of them were still married to each
other, as in the case of Sheridan's parents). And some of them had
GOOD relationships with their parents, too. Not like some other shows
where it seemed every character was an orphan, or that their parents
were an embarassment (or a plot device to foist an "unexpected
pregnancy" onto).
