Now see, I wouldn't call any of that heavy-handed.  Nothing jumps out as 
visually jarring.  I think it might be a language barrier thing, though.  
When I think "heavy-handed," I think "overuse."  In several of those (notably 
the change of the color of the river, and the Galadriel one), they certainly 
made _strong_ use of the technology, but not what I'd think of as 
"heavy-handed."
