A few notes on the order you indicated. (I've tried to avoid
significant spoilers in case anyone's trying to use this to go through
the series for the first time)

JMS has said this episode was supposed to be later in Ivanova's 1st
season development, but got moved up because it was ready earlier than
other episodes. The comment to Garibaldi at the end was supposed to be
a hint towards Chrysalis, so this episode belongs much closer to the

There is a reference in Revelations to this taking places "months" ago,
so doesn't really belong this close to the end of the season. It also
makes what happens in Revelations seem more contrived, having it right
so close to the end of the 1st season.

A better order might be:
19. Grail
20. Eyes
21. A Voice in the Wilderness, Part One
21. A Voice in the Wilderness, Part Two
22. Babylon Squared
23. The Quality of Mercy
24. TKO
25. Legacies
25 (sic). Chrysalis

These two were originally intended to be aired in reverse order (note
production  #'s). How that affects the comics in between, I'm not sure.
It makes a little more sense for Talia with Race first too.

> 71. Voices of Authority

These two were produced in the opposite order, and as I recall, they
were reversed because someone wanted "Passing" shown in the first block
of new episodes that season (November sweeps?). Doesn't seem to affect
the story too much...

> 81. Interludes and Examinations
> 82. Walkabout
> 83. War Without End, Part 1
> 84. Grey 17 Is Missing

JMS has said he originally wanted this to be the order (and it keeps
certain character arcs together), but as actually produced, this
doesn't work because "War" refers to events in "Interludes" as having
just happened in a way that precludes "Walkabout" from having occurred.

Don't remember the latter too well, but I think the story involves a
character who probably wouldn't be in a position to be involved after
Epiphanies.

This indeed is the best position for "Day" (despite two different
airing orders used that don't make sense). The only hiccup is that
there is suspiciously no acknowlegment of what is going on in
Garibaldi's arc at this point. But any other position has worse
continuity issues...

> 147. Appearances & Other Deceits
etc...

Crusade is a mess due to both the first network inteference that
changed the uniforms and the cancellation. The order that is most
satisfying from a character introduction standpoint doesn't match the
uniforms, and the series would not have aired that way if the remaining
episodes were produced. Not to mention onscreen date issues...


If the unproduced scripts were made, it would likely have been:

> War Zone (first meeting of characters) (January)
[they really needed to show some ensemble episodes at this point, but
nothing they could really do about it...]
> The Long Road
> The Well of Forever
> The Path of Sorrows
> Ruling from the Tomb (first meeting of Gideon & Lochley)
> Appearances & Other Deceits (uniforms switch)
> Racing the Night (originally planned 1st episode, 6 months into mission)
> The Needs of Earth
> The Memory of War
> Visitors from Down the Street
> Each Night I Dream of Home (2nd meeting of Gideon & Lochley - although
intended to be 1st and was redubbed)
> To the Ends of the Earth (uniforms switch back)
> Patterns of the Soul (has to be after grey uniform block)
> The Rules of the Game (3rd meeting of Gideon & Lochley)
> Value Judgments
[6 more episodes, including another Fiona Avery script & a 3-parter]
> The End of the Line (season finale)

If you want to ignore the uniforms (which is hard, given that they're a
plot point in "Appearances" and slightly in "Ends"), then the original
order given works, except that "Ends" shouldn't really immediately
precede "End of the Line" - it was intended as the mid-season ramp-up.
Also, I'm not sure how well "Appearances" works as a 2nd episode; I
think it helps to know the characters better. It was certainly written
to be a later episode. And "Visitors" has an onscreen date of May where
"Ruling" has June, but that's a problem in most orderings... And B5
itself doesn't stand up too well to date scrutiny either...
