========================
PC>Hello Daryl;

Hi, Peter...

PC> Yes you are right about them being a guest in your BBS home at logon.,
PC>And I have no problem with that. I only commented on the "read only"
PC>echoes, and well you explained, and I guess I am one that didn't
PC>complete the new user logon process. Thought I did, with name telephone
PC>age and all that but I guess not. No matter.

I also left a message to the Sysop (Feedback) to let them know if they
had any questions, to contact me. I don't think I've ever had a problem
on getting validated on another BBS.

PC> I also agree with comments made by users on BBSes and how it
PC>reflects back on the BBS. Had many days like that, but for the
PC>most part I was blessed by decent messages being posted, and I take
PC>it this is why your full process logon.?

That's correct. The info acts as a backup verification, if they lose
or forget their password. I myself have several times, embarassingly
forgotten the password to my own BBS!! Before I got married, the BBS was
at my parents house, and I'd go over to my fiancees' (sp?) place, and
try to logon. Then, I realized I didn't know my password, and I couldn't
logon to my own BBS!! <blush!>

PC> If you don't worry about what they post, and how they make total
PC>fools of themselves, then why have the process you have. Simply
PC>inbed it into the inital logon. If it is all explained what is
PC>going to be asked, then you get a smooth process...I did it with Wildcat
PC>as my logon was added to to fill all fields. I also called users to
PC>say hello have a chat and verify they were who they were. If I had
PC>the time.

We used to have face to face gatherings at a central Arkansas
restaurant once a month...just an informal time of food and fellowship.
The funniest part was when you met certain folks...they weren't at all
"like you pictured them". :) 95% of the users who've ever applied to my
BBS were civil and cordial...I see no reason to make exception to the
other 5% who don't wish to be.

PC> Hmmm...will checkout Synchronet to see if I like the program. Some
PC>are confusing enough. Then I am not in favour of the "nickname BBS".

The configuration module is a great help in the setup. And, you can
run it telnet only, or add dial-up with the freeware Argus and
Dialup-To-Telnet programs. And, as noted, Synchronet 3.x for Windows is
freeware, and actively supported.

PC> Okay on the packet....might try when I get my freebeee replacement
PC>CPU from the local hammies looking for me <g>.

If they can ever get some of the other packet nodes back up in the
state, I'll be more active. I used to take part in a packet net on the
N0KFQ BBS in Branson, Missouri, every Monday night at 7pm Central Time.
A nice, cordial, digital roundtable, that lasted an hour or so...we had
12 folks in there one night!! But, with some critical packet nodes still
under repair, I haven't been able to get in there for awhile.

Daryl, N5VLZ

P.S. If and when I can get that special utility for Synchronet that
Deuce (Stephen Hurd) is working on (hopefully just after the first of
the year), I'm hoping to get those ham radio doors back online.
