More than Mere Words 

"I wilt give you the sure mercies of David" (Acts 13:34). 

Nothing of man is sure; but everything of God is so. Especially are covenant
mercies sure mercies, even as David said "an everlasting covenant, ordered in
all things and sure." 

We are sure that the LORD meant His mercy. He did not speak mere words: there
is substance and truth in every one of His promises. His mercies are mercies
indeed. Even if a promise seems as if it must drop through by reason of death,
yet it never shall, for the good LORD will make good His word. 

We are sure that the LORD will bestow promised mercies on all His covenanted
ones. They shall come in due course to all the chosen of the LORD. They are
sure to all the seed, from the least of them unto the greatest of them. We are
sure that the LORD will continue His mercies to His own people. He does not
give and take. What He has granted us is the token of much more. That which we
have not yet received is as sure as that which has already come; therefore, let
us wait before the LORD and be still. There is no justifiable reason for the
least doubt. God's love, and word, and faithfulness are sure. Many things are
questionable, but of the LORD we sing -- 

For his mercies shall endure Ever faithful, ever sure.

Reformation and Revival - Part 1




Reform: 1.to make better by removing faults and defects 2. to make better by
putting a stop to abuses or malpractices. 3. to correct. 

Revive: 1. to come back to life. 2. to come back to consciousness. 3. to come
back to health and vigor. 4. to flourish again after a decline. 5. to come back
into use or attention. 6. to become valid, effective, or operative again. 





This article is born out of our desire to see the reformation and revival of
the Church. We do not pretend to offer a ministry that can or will produce such
a move of God. Our only claim is that we see the desperate need for such and
passionately seek it for the glory of God and the eternal benefit of His
people. 




A Work of God 
Reformation and revival in the Church is a work of God that cannot be produced
by the will or efforts of men. Although all reformations and revivals in the
history of the Church have been marked by great praying and anointed preaching,
these things did not cause revival, but were the first fruits of it. Throughout
the Church today, there is an ever-increasing fellowship of believers who have
been awakened to the desperate need of reformation and revival. As I travel
throughout the United States and abroad, I find an unprecedented number of
individuals who long to return to the rock from which we were hewn, to walk in
the old paths, and to once again embrace the foundational truths of the
Scriptures. This is especially true on our university and seminary campuses
where we find an increasing number of young people who see through the .vanity
fair. of much of contemporary Christianity and long for God, biblical truth,
and true piety. For this reason, and many others, we have great hope that God
is visiting His people in an extraordinary way! 




We want to make it clear when we speak of signs of revival in our generation
that we are not referring to most of the widely publicized and popular renewal
movements or the amazing growth of .Christian media. or the majority of .mega.
churches built primarily upon church growth techniques and clever marketing
campaigns. The reformation to which we refer is marked by a return to orthodoxy
(biblical doctrine) and results in true doxology (worship) and praxis (practice
or Christian living).
