=================
Hi Carol,

RH> I'm all caught up and trying to stay so. Power here is something else
RH> tho I did manage to get a loaf of bread made the other day without
RH> interruption. (As I was typing the last sentance it blinked enough to
RH> set off the UPS's warning beeper.)

CS> Bad weather or something else? Some base housings have old electrical
CS> gear and that can be a real PITA.

Should be fairly new wiring; the house is less than a year old. I've a
feeling that it's somewhere else on post that is the source of the
problems. We had it in HI all the time; that's why everything important
runs on UPSs.

RH> part of that comes from living in Germany for 6 years and enjoying the
RH> fresh white asparagus every spring.

CS> I've never had 'fresh' be available as cheap as canned. While i

RH> I know, fresh is a bit "dear" most of the time. I did see white,
RH> cheaper than the green a few weeks ago at the commissary but didn't ge

CS> I have some frozen spears. Havent made them up yet. I'm
 CS> contemplating dinner though.

Roasted, drizzled with a bit of olive oil and salt is good.

RH> It's your choice. We'll go for the frozen from time to time but green
RH> "comfort food" is probably spinach. (G)

CS> Charlotte and i love spinach. Don flees the house when we make it

We both like it. The green tonight will be the last of some collards I
cooked up recently.

CS> when I left that had one over the other. Someplace along Pearl Harbor
CS> to Waikiki. Some was separate but some was the same when I was there.

RH> There's a stretch in Pearl City/Aiea where H1 goes over the Kam for a
RH> stetch but now they're pretty much separate. Depending on where we
RH> wanted to go, we took one or the other.

CS> HI now over KAM all the way from Pearl Harbor base to Wakiki exit now?

No, just in the Pearl City/Aiea area; then they split off into different
directions. They talked about the whole time we were there, about
alternatives, including a flyover for the Pearl Harbor section or public
transport from the same area to downtown but nothing has been settled
yet. Kapolei has grown hugely, mostly as a bedroom community to
Honolulu, same with the Ewa Beach area so getting into/out of town to or
from them has really gotten bad.

CS> Should be. They were working the last section when I left. I dont
CS> have a good memory of the route from Pearl harbor out westawrds to
CS> Pearl City. Didnt go that direction much.

CS> Funny how that happens. One day you just realize how long it has been.
 CS> 'Howddathappen'?

RH> Yes; at the end of this month, I will have been on Fido for 13 years
RH> now. My baby is 26; my grandbaby is now 3.

 CS> I've been a sysop since 1986, Fidonet since 1989.

We were steered into Fido when we got to AZ; Steve was in different
areas before someone told him about Cooking. I went from Cooking to
several of the old craft echos (now defunct, sad to say) but now stay
pretty much here.

CS> \sigh\ he was so cute!
RH> He WAS (?) so cute? Not any more?

CS> Ah he is, just a differnt sort of cute. Garners *lots* of looks from
CS> the local female population. I just remind him that looking is ok,

RH> (Grin) I don't know if anybody ever used th word "cute" for Steve or m
RH> but he liked to tease our girls about their "cute little dimples". I
RH> usually refer to him as my "tall, dark & handsome". He didn't have a
RH> white horse but did have a red Pinto when we met (the one that was

CS> Ok, works for me! I describe Don as having a face only a mother or a
CS> wife could love <g>. Actually, he's gotten pretty handsome now.

Would be interesting to hear what some of Charlotte's girl friends say
about him. (G)

CS> Well, I lucked up. Almost no wind at all and not too bad. A Peacoat
CS> was enough to keep me fairly comfy. Probably 45F or so the whole time

RH> That's good. Dry, as well?

CS> Yes. No rain at all that night.

We had a front come thru last night that did major damage before hitting
the coast. There were some tornadoes inland but just wind & rain here.
It didn't cool down much this time but by mid week we're supposed to be
cold again.

RH> done on the short cycle with the bread yeast for whole grain breads an
CS> Drats. Mine just flopped. Ended up with a doorstop here. Doesnt
CS> happen often but does sometimes to all of us.

RH> Yes, I know the feeling. The fun of second guessing what went wrong.
RH> cubed up most of our "brick", oven dried them and ran them thru the
RH> blender for crumbs so it wasn't wasted.

CS> I do that sometimes too, though not with a blender. I cut it up a
CS> bit, throw it in an old pillow case, and let Charlotte vent her excess
CS> energy bashing it to pulp <G>. Back in VB, I used such to feed the

We don't have the kid with extra energy. (G) I've crumbed my extra for
years--not bought breadcrumbs in probably close to 30 years. The last
couple of moves (or more) have had a pound or so of breadcrumbs (well
packed) in with the HHG.

CS> birds by tossing hunks out in the yard.

That works too; we jsut do the crumb thing so I can use them in other
cooking.
