Or not eaten enough of them. I note the actual total 'volume' of food the
Japanese eat at a meal is actually larger than most USA folks are used to, but
of a lower calorie overall. Almost all the condiments for example, are
fat-free totally. Soy sauce, rice wine, vinigar, and such things. Yes, they
have others, but in limited use and amounts.

BM> Understand, although this isn't all that sanitary a practise.

You are right, but it is a little closer and they feel it's ok.

Today at Guyemon's we got 3 forks, 1 spoon, 1 knife, and 2 sets of chopsticks.
(Don's meal needed a spoon for his soup but mine was a sip from the bowl
type). Charlotte's meal didnt need chopsticks as it's considered 'fingerfood'
except the cake which needed a fork (though i gleefully snatched a few bits
with my chopsticks).

Charlotte is sorta Japan manners trained. She thinks grabbing food off Mom's
plate with a fork is rude, but wont think twice about sneaking some with her
chopsticks (grin, kid normal behavior here).

In fact, she snitched my spinach <G>. Well, not all of it as she isnt rude,
but she sorta snitched some and when I looked back, I had a french fry...
She'd snitched Don's chopsticks as he was doing the fork thing this time.

It will be very interesting if we get to go to Germany with this kid. She;s
gonna wanna eat kielbasa cut to slices with her chopsticks so it's easier to
dunk them in the mustard.

BM> Largely monkey see, monkey do, I guess.

Sure, thats how i operate here. Works well (evil grin). Memory kicked in and
this specific one was related to PoHang Korea but it's not as much of a
difference among Asians that Korea would be that specific in how the utensils
are handled. You pass them on if communal and dont eat directly off them.

BM> That's probably what it was, then. It was in an unrefrigerated packag

Almost sure to be Udon then. Mostly I add the water (1-2 cups) and the
seasoning, then boil it on the stove. Lift out the noodles and serve separate
would feel wierd to me but the only way to make it 'dry enough' for what you
describe. Definately one of the ones you eat right over the bowl <g>. I'd
generally say udon with chopsticks is advanced eating tactics!
