But at what rate? We're talking about pumping heat into slab that
might be at -10C. The rate of pumping is vital.

As I intimated, your concrete must be better than our concrete.

Electric blanket fires were, when I was growing up, not rare.
Of course, electric blanket electrocutions also occurred.

I didn't even bother getting a Velocity card, and, truth be told,
I'm likely not to bother flying DJ again. Were the invitation to
visit down under extended again, I might consider Air New Zealand
connecting in Auckland or someplace like that. Were I to do it
without Carol, I'd go to Singapore on United in Nobs' and then
take an award ticket from there.

The difference in shape is apparent only when you look at
the back of the clam - the general form is quite similar;
what difference I imagine is in the hinge area. By the way,
did you find cherrystones or quahogs (pronounced co-hogs)?
Cherrystones are best eaten raw, but they are quite respectable
when cooked gently; quahogs are best shucked and then ground
before putting into soups or fritters. Were the latter to be
cooked whole, it could take your proverbial hours to cook them.

The gonadal process, aka "roe," has a distinct bitterness, which
Americans don't care for; further, it has been frequently discussed
that Americans in general have preferred whitish or grayish food to
reddish food. This has held true until recently even with regard to
your obvious counterexample, beef, which here used to be cooked at
least to a "rare" of 140-145F in the interior - the huge growth of
the cattle industry may be attributed in part to the discovery on
the part of the public that pink meat tastes better than gray meat.

Well, as I've discussed, Qantas is chicken, whereas Virgin Blue is
more like your beloved Chooky - malignant as well as chicken.

(more if on a purely international flight).

Reminds me of another war and another generation, when people
were discriminated against for various attire, from trousers with
stars and stripes on them to one particularly famous t-shirt that
said "Lick Dick in '72," the Dick in question being Richard Nixon,
a politician with many unfortunate attributes, from an ugly and
offputting speaking voice to an unfortunate phallic-looking nose.

     Title: Barb's Brilliant Beet Dip

  Servings: 1

      1 lb Beets
           ;soft cooked, peeled
           ;and cut into chunks
      4 oz Soft tofu
           ;drained
      1 tb Apple cider vinegar
           ;Or more, to taste
      2 tb Minced shallots
    1/2 ts Dry mustard
    1/2 ts Dried thyme
    1/2 ts Dried tarragon

Puree ingredients (using 1 tablespoon vinegar) in a
food processor or blender until smooth. Adjust
seasonings, adding more vinegar and salt to taste.
Serve immediately or refrigerate in tightly sealed
container for up to 3 days. Makes about 2 cups.
