One of the people I know from the frequent flyer boards was
who was literally homeless - he had a consulting job and
was of no fixed address at all (I believe his mail went to
a parent or relative's home, but he did not live there).
He was so peripatetic that it was USA Today, I believe, that
devoted a lengthy article on him. Anyhow, even after his work
ended, he continued to live on airplanes until he eventually
found another situation.

It was a lonely life; when he was in town I'd take him to
dinner and he'd complain softly about his lot; then, after a
while, I saw him no more; eventually I went to one of the
gatherings, and he was beaming happy, leading around his
loved one. Who was exactly the same size and shape as he,
with the same sort of face (less ravaged, perhaps), same
coloring, everything. Turns out that Sean (his beloved) was
born ON THE SAME DAY as my friend. They easily could have
been twins separated at birth.

I suppose that any asexually-reproduced offspring might be
more accurately referred to as a daughter, genetic-wise; but
not that much more accurately.

Yes. Dinner would cost about 15 Sing, maybe 20 counting the beers.

TTTT, some of us don't really like the flavor of banana leaves.
Better than taro leaves or lotus leaves, but not by much.

It would be wonderful if Qantas joined Star; but it's more likely
that SQ would leave (as has been rumored darkly). If Qantas joined
Star, though, the UA service down under might have to be stopped.

Candied banana fritters
cat: dessert
serves: 6

1 egg
3 T flour
3 T cornstarch
1 T water
3 md bananas; not too ripe
oil
4 oz sugar

Lightly beat egg; add flour, cornstarch and water; mix thoroughly.

Peel bananas; cross-cut into bite-size pieces; dip in egg batter.
Heat oil for deep-frying; deep-fry 15 seconds and remove; drain.
Reheat oil, deep-fry banana sections, a second time until golden;
remove.

In another pan, heat 2 T oil, add sugar and stir over moderate
heat until sugar melts. When melted sugar turns golder add
fried bananas, mix lightly to coat bananas and place on a
greased serving plate.

When serve, you may dip it in cold water, taste crisp and
more delicious.

For several variations you may substitute sweet potato, taro
root, porate, etc. as desire. But change the deep-frying
time to 3 minutes.

M's notes: you dip them in ice water. You may substitute
any old kind of fruit and possibly some vegetables. I have
no idea what a porate is. I did guess, however, that the
author of the two last paragraphs was not the same as the
author of the rest of the recipe.
