I believe it's called a 12-ounce program.

Went off with the family and Carol to Houston's, where I
had a steak salad, and the next day, as I was around for
two meals, went to the Safeway where I got two porterhouses
and a pack of "boneless country-style beef ribs," which were
blade steak cut somewhat funny. Cooked the porterhouses for
lunch (he had the filet, I had most of a sirloin and the
bones; the other filet saved for tomorrow, the other sirloin
saved for my brother); the blade steak was turned into
stir-fry in the Chinese manner and was dinner. Today: what
the airplane offers, and it darn well better include meat.
People used to complain about the Deluxe Cheeseburger as
served on the airline, but I thought it a good idea (though
once, going to or from (I forget which) Vancouver the burgers
on United were so juicy - read greasy - that they ran out of
napkins on the plane, and people departed the aircraft with
chins and fronts glistening in an unusual manner.

Heated up the house, your old oven, didn't it, so the
energy wasn't totally wasted.

A lot of people like greasy starches, or at least cheesy starches.
I make no judgment on this. I will point out even if not asked
that cheesy starch may easily be made at home for a cost of a
buck or two a pound, and at that latter figure, using decent
cheese, the product will be substantially superior to what one
gets off the steam table.

Yeah, and it was that cheap Molson stuff no doubt. The economics
of draft beer are pretty interesting: you can get a keg at retail,
and the cost of a pour is 25c or so; I'd bet that it's much less
at wholesale (though there has to be a bit of an insurance cost).
When I was growing up, the Forest Cafe used to pay, as I recall,
6c for a 12-oz beer; they sold it for 35c and I presume even with
the other costs made a fair profit on the deal. Other places charged
up to a buck for the same beer.

BISTIK (Beefsteak)
cat: main
servings: 1 to 8

2 lb round or sirloin tip steak
2 Tb lemon juice (or calamansi juice if available)
1 oz soy sauce
2 oz water
2 md onions, sliced
3 Tb cooking oil
1 clove garlic, minced finely
1 md potato, peeled, cubed 1"

MSG (optional)

Slice meat 1/4" thick across the grain and cut into 2x2" pieces.
Tenderize meat by pounding with mallet or the back of the knife.

Combine lemon juice and soy sauce and marinate meat 1 hr.

In a kawali or wok combine marinaded beef mixture, including
marinade, water, and 1 onion and bring to a boil. Simmer, cover,
and cook until beef is tender (about 20 min). Drain, setting
aside meat and saving the broth or liquid in another bowl.

Heat cooking oil in wok and saute garlic and 1 sliced onion. Add
meat and cubed potatoes and stir-fry for one minute. Add cooking
liquid and simmer 5 min or until potatoes are cooked.

Adjust seasonings and serve.
