*sigh*
I'm back online now, for who knows how long. I'm still not sure what 
happened but something did...and now it's "unhappened". at least for now!

Yesterday I fired up the puter after arising and everything seemed normal. 
After I got Anne off to work I came in and settled down to catch up on email 
and do some of my internet "stuff". Upon trying to open the browser I got 
the "DSL MODEM TEST" screen and the modem failed to connect. I reset the 
modem which usually cures the problem....nope, so then I did the "hard reset" 
with the paperclip in the hole trick...nope nothing....finally called tech
support 
number after I had done all the local things I could do. I got "Jessica" in 
India...and she (we) went through the entire script that she had in front of 
her...nothing....except we determined that the problem was not my modem. 
So I got transferred over to "Alex", still in India and we went through HIS 
entire script...no results still indications that it's not my modem...Now by
this 
time I've been on the phone about 2 hours counting the hold time and all the 
button pushing to finally get to a script reading human in India....So Alex
puts 
me on hold again to speak to another tech.....and get a "ticket number" for 
my problem.....after another 1.5 hour on hold "Dale" showed up on the line 
and gave me a ticket number for the problem and told me to call back in 4 
hours to see if there had been any resolution to the problem. Off I go and do 
my errands for the day and I make sure I'm home in time to call back with my 
ticket number....which I dutifully do right on time....and I get a recorded 
message that " The phone company is working on your problem. Please call 
back in 8 hours and we will have more information at that time."....Being 
somewhat of a masochist at this point I called the number again and didn't 
enter my ticket number at the prompt and worked my way all the way back 
to another script reader in India...inspite of my protests that I'd already
done 
the whole thing....we went through her script from front to back again....and 
by this time my patience was wearing thin...finally after three more script 
readers in India I insisted on getting a tech in the USA...another hour on 
hold, by this time Anne has come home and is waiting for dinner....which isn't 
even started yet .....but she made herself scarce as she could see that my 
temper was also getting to the boiling point.....finally got an amercian tech 
who I could persuade away from the script and discuss what might be the 
real problem....seems there was a connectivity problem for the whole Seattle 
area for some reason (no one seemed to have any more information than 
that). Suddenly while on the phone with the tech in San Antonio, my modem 
light up and I was connected! I thanked the tech and got off the phone and 
called up the browser....I WAS CONNECTED!!!!!! for about 15 seconds and 
then **"POOF"** I was offline again....by this time I knew better than to try 
to speak to anyone about it so I fixed dinner and Anne and I spent a quiet 
evening together...This morning I got up and saw that the situation was still 
the same as last night.....So I called the number again....and I've spent the 
last three hours ranting at the script readers in India that my modem is not 
the problem I don't wanna go through the script again with each and every 
one of them and I wanted to speak to a technician in America...after three 
hours of that which included a blue streak swearing session that must have 
lasted 3 minutes I finally convinced them to switch me over to a tech in the 
USA...who said look we'll ship you a new modem (inspite of my protests that 
the modem is fine) and that would fix the problem....by this time I guess 
they'd simply worn me down and I said sure send me a new ****ing modem 
but I ain't paying for it...so now I'm waiting on a new modem to come 
along ....and as soon as I got off the phone with them....this one lit up just 
like a christmas tree and I'm back on line (with a new modem on the way)....I 
still have no idea what the problem was/is...although I'm still pretty sure
it's 
not my freaking modem which is working fine right now.
One thing I am sure of ......I HATE script reading tech support....and I am 
only very slightly sorry for my expletive laced tirade at them this morning. 
Now I feel like a Norwegian Blue: All shagged out after a prolonged squawk!
I am online again....but for how long no one seems to know, least of all me!
