Like getting in somebody's head. Carol and I often click in that
way (on the other hand, at times she and I are talking completely
at cross purposes, and what one says is totally incomprehensible
to the other: not so bad, as it adds excitement to the mix).

It's a rare thing and should be cultivated. Most of my friends
and I do not share any of this; my sister and I, well, we were so
in tune it was spooky, but even though I don't count any of my
friends as stupid, their thought processes are quite different
from mine. I've had flashes of this kind of synergistic thinking
with, let's see, Carol, as I said, frequently; my friend Joan,
quite infrequently, but on the few occasions it happened, notably;
your dad, often, largely in the culinary neighborhood (he really
is a goombah), and often with my ex-girlfriend Lucille's sister.
Oh, yes, and there were some spooky convergences of thought with
my friend Kevin's college roommate Fred Villars, with whom I had
just about nothing in common.

It's not as though my other friends are less enjoyable - in fact,
talking with people with different points of view is generally
more informative; but doing the mental synergy thing is very fun.

cat: cake
yield: 1 10" round, 1 17"x12" jelly roll pan, or an 8" square

h - amounts in parentheses are for an 8" square
1/4 c sweet butter (3 Tb)
1 1/2 ts vanilla (1 ts)
7 large eggs (4)
6 oz superfine sugar (4 oz)
1 Tb honey (optional) (2 ts)
2 c cake flour, sifted (1 1/3 c)

Oven at 400.

Grease a baking pan. Line the bottom with cooking parchment
or wax paper, grease that, and flour all around.

Melt butter and add vanilla. Set aside and keep warm.

In a large double boiler, heat eggs, sugar, and honey to
lukewarm, stirring constantly. Beat at high speed until
tripled in volume (light lemon color).

Whisk 1 c of the eggs into the butter.

Sift half the flour into the rest of the eggs. Fold gently
and rapidly until almost fully incorporated. Add the rest
of the flour in the same way. Then add the butter mixture
in the same way.

Pour immediately into the pan and bake 20-30 min (10 min
for jelly roll sheet) or until sides begin to shrink away
from the sides of the pan.

Remove from oven. Loosen the sides with a knife or spatula.
Unmold at once onto a greased rack, and then reinvert to cool.
