========================
JW> I am guilty of that simple pleasure on occasion. Along similar lines,
JW> toast smeared with pork drippings is old fashioned Newfoundland and
JW> Quebec breakfast favourite. I have posted some creton recipes here
 JW> years ago.

Creton is okay, rillettes are okay. I strongly prefer beef
fat of various kinds, largely for the texture - though the
pork belly fat that is used to clothe various pates and
terrines is wonderful in its own peculiarly crisp way.

My sister, I think I've posted before, used to enjoy her
morning toast spread with roast lamb gravy, which is one
of the greasiest substances known to humanity.

JW> The eight year old resident femnazi says...
JW> boys do tend to be dumb.
ML> And that explains grampa how?
JW> According to Roslind I fit that mould.

Ah. Carol sometimes waxes eloquent on how I'm the
smarfest person she knows, and then shortly thereafter
will tell me I'm a dumm bozo.

=

JW> It appears I do. The worms eat oatmeal; the crickets eat oatmeal and
JW> dead worms and live worms and each other. Nasty little critters. If
JW> the crickets breed I shall only need to buy cheap oatmeal to keep the
 JW> whole thing going.

"If" the crickets breed?

JW> Now Neekha wants to breed geckos and sell them. A vivarium will
JW> support one male only (they fight) but several females. She plans to
JW> sell the females and throw the males in the garbage (I told you she was
 JW> a junior femnazi!)

I'm disappointed. If she were true to gourmandism, she'd
look into investigating the marketability of "filet of gecko."

JW> In the "food" packets I inherited there was some "Tuna Helper"....
 JW> evil stuff.

Wot's it like?

-=> Jim Weller said to Dave Sacerdote <=-

JW> Judging from the cupboards the guy ate almost exclusively
JW> highly proceeded foods and no "real" food at all. I am still
JW> amazed. I guess I should have realized there were people out
JW> there like him given the fact that 3/4 of the supermarket
JW> is full of that stuff and only 1/4 dedicated
JW> to meat, fish, dairy products, fresh and frozen produce
JW> and baking supplies like flour and yeast.

Shelf stable, high profit margin, what's not to like?

DS> When Lynn noticed the arrangement for the first time, some
DS> time ago, she remarked on how clever it was to include the deli
DS> (the most expensive "fresh" area of the store) on that outside
DS> loop. (She also went down one of the processed food aisles and
DS> said, "Dad, who buys this sh-t?")
JW> The guy who's house I cleaned out. An ex-girlfriend way back who's
JW> idea of a home cooked meal to impress a date was: pork chops fried at
JW> least 45 minutes then casseroled in Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup
JW> for about two hours so they were re-hydrated again and "extra" tender,

Which sounds like an interesting technique.

JW> instant mashed potatoes (extra runny), cream corn (barely warmed),
JW> Wonder bread and margarine. She had salt, pepper (very stale),
JW> French's mustard and ketchup. That was it for herbs, spices, condiments
JW> and seasonings. Oh yeah, and no beer. We had a very short relationship!

She had to be darned slinky, or you darned drunk, to have
made it a relationship at all.

JW> Ever stare at the buggy of the guy behind you in a cashier's line-up
JW> and then snicker? Don't you just love the way they glare at you and
JW> then blush and stare at their shoes cause they feel guilty?

I can see that the MLs aren't the only naughty ones on the echo.

Speaking of which, substitute "wife" or "child" or "hat" for
"buggy."

  1 1/2 c Snow Peas
      9 oz Rice Vermicelli
           Red Pepper Sliced Thin
    1/2 English Cucumber Sliced Thin
      6 oz Cooked Shrimp
      6 oz Crabmeat
1 tb Fine Chopped Fresh Ginger
      1 Chopped Garlic Clove
      2 tb Sesame Oil
    1/2 ts Black Pepper
  1 1/2 ts Salt
      2 tb Lemon Juice
      3 ts Vegetable Oil

Wash and trim snow peas. Place them in a bowl and pour in enough boiling
water to cover them. Let stand 10 minutes; drain and set aside. Cook the
noodles in plenty of boiling water for 3 to 4 minutes. Drain in colander,
rinse with cold water and set aside. In large bowl, combine noodles, snow
peas, red pepper, cucumber, shrimp and crabmeat. In a small bowl, combine
ginger, garlic, sesame oil, pepper, salt, vegetable oil, lemon juice and
vinegar. Pour this dressing over the other ingredients and mix thoroughly.
