I sent reams too <g>. Things specific to his diet needs as I recall? I was
looking to diabetic, lower sodium, and i think reduced fat? I remember him
saying you liked some of them (he must have shown them to you on the screen)
but not sure which ones they were. Oh, I also looked to 'lower cost' as i
think he said things were a bit tight just then.

I have a new cookbook here that i'm looking over. Mabe Hoffman's Crockery
Cookery. Also a better homes and gardens Breadmaker book.

You'll see much of my stuff uses a crockpot. I can't remember if you have one
or not. I use mine almost all the time (in fact, I have 2 of them!). It
suits our lifestyle to always have something ready to eat with no-muss,
no-fuss.

A bit ago folks listed some of the kitchen stuff they couldnt live without.

I could live without an oven, but not without the below:

Crockpot
Breadmaker
Ricemaker
Stovetop teapot
deep-dish frypan with lid
french sauce pot (No better name, a 5inch deep 7 inch wide sauce pot with lid)

I loaned my microwave to a new neighbor who was waiting for their household
good s to arrive. It was gone 2 months and we barely noticed.

Things I would prefer to not go without:

Rotisserie (mine is vertical with a metal crockpot ontop)
Various stock pots of bigger size
Cast iron skillets (I have 3 in storage and still miss them)
Toaster (ours also does bagels)
Pizza pan
Oven (I'm iffy on if this belongs here but at times you really need one)
Safety deep-fat fryer

Cute things that arent essential but are 'nice' and get used:
Blender (I have a little japanese model, does 3 cups max).
Samwich maker
Cassarole dishes
Collander (maybe this belongs above?)
Egg slicer
Steamer (stove top unit but before i had it, used collander over water fine)
Dehydrator (home made jerky is much better! Worlds better!)
Hand operated meat grinder

So like, what's your kitchen like? You'll find all of us here have special
things we do well and help others with. Not all of us cook alot and all of us
cook 'simple' at times as well as fancy. Ian Hoare does really fancy things
and so does Michael Loo. Jim Weller as well at times with annual feasts
(theme related ones to ethnic cuisines). Glen, Greg, and I talk Asian foods
and have to translate sometimes for the rest of you <g>. Eleanor Creighton,
now that she's back, makes a hell of a good bread pudding (I've had it at her
home, one of the few here I've met face-to-face) and 'down-home-Canadian'
cooking.

Ruth Haffly seems best with breadmachines though i aint too shabby. Joan does
a really good job with cutting recipes down to serve 2 as does Ruth Hanascka
(sp?). Dale can tell you all about George Foreman grill techniques to reduce
fat (You'll see us shorthand that to GF grill or just a 'GF'.)

Due to conditions in Japan, I cut my kitchen down radically when we moved here
and for the most part, we were right about what we brought. We didnt use the
oven and it was terribly small (4lb chicken was as big as you could reliably
cook in it) and very expensive to run so I got out of the habit of having one.
I just tried to remember to dust out the insides every 6 months or so <grin>.

Oh, if you wanna try crockpots, I'm your person though others here can help
too!

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

      Title: Leeky Crockpot
 Categories: Crockpot, Soups, Xxcarol
      Yield: 12 Servings

2 ea Leek bunches, washed and cut
4 ea Medium red or white potatos
2 cn Cream of mushroom soup
      1 cn Water
      1 pk Chopped mushrooms
1 cn Blue lake green beans, whole
4 ds Tabasco sauce or other hot
1 ts White pepper (black ok)

Chop all veggies roughly and add to crockpot. Now add all the cans,
using the liquid from the green beans for the can of 'water' and
adding more to make a full can. (May use fresh green beans and it's
better that way). Add the mushrooms (consider using shiitake or
morels if feeling fancy but plain will do). Add the rest and mix,
then set on low for 6 hours. Its ready but will keep on low for
another 12 hours cooking time easily. Refridgerate liner at night.
Freezes pretty well in a sealed container.

  From: xxcarol

Optional low-fat version, change soup to low-fat chicken broth and
add a fistful of dry 'large lima beans' (otherwise known as butter
  beans).
