Ärende: New Years gift!
=======================
RH> Thanks; we don't watch him as often as we watch "Mythbusters" on

ml> yeah, i used to watch mythbusters but i got over them pretty quickly
ml> after seeing most of their episodes for the gazillionth time... i take
ml> a peek at them every once in a while to see if they've anything new

RH> We've not seen as many--first started watching it in HI, then our
RH> cable set up was re-done and didn't get Discovery again til we
RH> moved here. Did you see the Coke and Mentos one a while ago? (G)

yup... i've also a "long" coke and mentos video that i'm considering putting up
in the gallery... it is quite a show... very much like a scripted fountain show
like you might see in those las vegas water fountains that are computer
controlled...

ml> laughed a whale of a lot when he found that (poisonous?) frog, though!

RH> It was a cane toad, known to cause convulsions and/or paralysis.
RH> Newcomers to the islands are warned not to let their child or dog
RH> handle (or lick, as in the dog's case) them as the consequences
 RH> aren't very pleasant.

ml> yeah... in bermuda, there are/were frogs/toads that could easily kill
ml> a dog... i'm aware that there are some pretty unsafe critters out
 ml> there O:)

RH> No matter where you go you'll encounter some nasty or other. Hawaii
 RH> had those and centipedes; AZ had rattlers, scorpions and suchlike;
RH> here in Georgia we've got various snakes etc, etc.

yep... i was raised down in albany... i don't care what anybody says, there are
rattlers in GA... i think we called them pine rattlers but... i remember a
story my dad tells about going out to a shop one time... they had a few big
trucks (semis) and a tow truck to pull them (wrecker service)... there was an
incident where a farmer got his big tractor stuck in a field so he went back to
the barn and got another big tractor to pull the first one out with... ended up
getting both stuck... the farmer called these guys to come get the tractors
out... when the service man arrived, he pulled around to the woods so he could
tie the tow truck off to a large tree... he pulled his cables out and got both
tractors out of the field... when he got back in the tow truck to leave, he had
this feeling that he wasn't alone... he cam flying out of the truck real fast
when he saw what had gotten in the truck while he was working on the
tractors... its skin is what prompted dad to ask about and hear this story...
the skin was "mounted" on a 1"x10" board about 10 or 12 feet long with the
sides wrapped around to the back of the board where they were tacked to hold it
in place... big, huge rattler!! i haven't heard how much meat they got from it
if they did that with it... it would hope so, though... dad said that it was an
older black man that told him the story and that he was the one that had gone
out on the call... this man said that he _always_ closes the doors, now, when
he goes out on a job and also checks the interior of the cab very closely when
he's going to get back in it O:)

[trim]

RH> Have you seen the guy on the Travel channel who tries different
RH> foods? We caught him the night he encountered durian; now that was
 RH> funny.

ml> you're talking about Zimmern... yeah... i've seen that show and try to
ml> catch it when it is on... at least, if there's nothing else on worth a
 ml> shot %^)

ml> [no, that's not a misspelling or typo ]

RH> We aren't huge tv watchers; Steve comes across shows like that when
 RH> he's channel surfing. I think his favorite channel is sci-fi; I
RH> really don't have any but food network comes close. We both like
 RH> Alton Brown's "Good Eats"--he made gyros a while ago which we've
RH> had in various incarnations around the country (and world) so we
RH> tried it Monday night. Pretty good but a bit too heavy on some of
RH> the herbs and spices IMO. The tdziki was a bit too garlicky and
RH> the meat mix was a bit strong on the rosemary. Didn't have any
RH> marjoram so subbed Mexican oregano. Otherwise, it's a keeper.

we'd get along pretty well, then... i'm almost always on sci-fi, food, or one
of the other "science" based channels... i'll catch the national geographic
channel some times and i'm always hitting up the military channel... i've been
watching the new weaponology and another weapons show about the new military
stuff... but sci-fi is pretty much my mainstay... unless they've some horro
stuff on that i can't fathom how can be called science fiction
