Ärende: New Years gift!
=======================
Hi Ruth,

-> RH> Target sells a lot of junk too.

-> Not as much as the "marts" do.

 RH> It's just different junk. Some of their stuff is better quality, but
 RH> not all of it.

Yes, you have to look stuff over before before buying. On our last trip
there we got the wedding shower stuff and an instant read thermometer
for us. It's not a fancy one but I've used it several times and do like
it. Handy for checking the water temp when I'm throwing stuff into the
bread machine. I also used it Tuesday night when I made the gyros to
check the temp on the meat.

-> Seems more Black English but it just grates on my nerves every time I
-> hear it.

 RH> Improper or lazy English sometimes gets me too - but the y'know
 RH> interjection every ten seconds is a lot worse ... y'know.

Like I see like, what you mean, y'know. (G)

-> I'd still rather have the real thing; can't get any decent drippings off
-> the turkey stuff for my German potato salad.

 RH> I've never gotten a decent bacon taste off of the stuff, never mind

Use your imagination for the bacon taste.

 RH> drippings. If you really want nasty fake bacon, soy bacon takes the
 RH> prize.

Gag! Just the thought of it is revolting!

-> RH> I do often, but the plastic doesn't dry. It just sits there wet
->  RH> forever.
 RH> ->
-> It'll dry eventually if you live in a more arid climate, trust me.
 RH> ->
 RH> You'll be hand-drying it in Georgia too.

I know, but only as a last resort. This dishwasher does a better job of
drying stuff than the one we had in HI--less goes into the dish rack
after a cycle has been run for extra dry time. And I can daydream about
when we will be living in AZ again (maybe another 6-8 years).

-> They recognise it now; figure I got it thru my dad's mom who passed away
-> several years before I was born.

 RH> In my family, there have been artists of one kind or another in just
 RH> about every generation. Some have been professionals at it; others

Only one I know of in my family is my mom's maternal grandfather; he was
a designer for Tiffany's in NYC. I own one of his pieces. Dad's side has
been mostly blue collar workers.

 RH> just did it for fun. Oddly, there were professional violinists on both
 RH> sides of the family tree. Neither is a direct ancestor, but it's a
 RH> strange coincidence.

So do you play the violin?

-> Not as bad as durian sampler.

 RH> Overripe durian taster maybe; ripe durian taster sounds like a great
 RH> job to have.

There's a fine line between ripe and over ripe. Did you ever take
chemstry in high school? In lab time we made esters once; the pineapple
one had a fine line between smelling like pineapple and someone losing
their lunch. Inevitably someone would cross that line. (G) I made a
nice wintergreen one which my teacher ended up dropping all over my lab
book; the book smelled really nice the last few weeks of school.

-> New in that the unhealed line of bone was finally filled in after about
-> 18 months. But, I'm wearing normal walking shoes again. I've got to
-> get new dress (heels) shoes; one pair nevr made it back to the main land
-> and the other pair did but shouldn't have. After all, I can't go to
-> formal functions wearing most of my current footwear (including the
-> western boots); it's just not acceptable. (G)

 RH> No slippahs either? Darn! Zappos.com here we come!

No slippahs but occaisionally house shoes. As for other shoes, I'd
rather go to a store where I can try them on; there are several in the
area that deal with "problem feet" Steve says we can check out. Our
dress code for the Eater music/drama presentation is black skirt or
slacks (which provoked a discussion on skirts/kilts for the guys) and
white tops. I let the diretor know that I'll be in slacks so Steve
commented that skirts and tennis (!) shoes don't go well together.

-> RH> I use barley in "rice bags" sometimes, but rarely cook it. I might
-> RH> try grinding some eventually and see if that improves it.
 RH> ->
-> We're using the regular stuff, not the pearl. Try sprouting it for a
-> couple of days, dry the sprouts and then grind them. Sweet malt powder
-> is the result.

 RH> Uhmmm - yum? Malt powder.

You like malted milk?

Catch you later,
Ruth
