If you want convenience, go with gas.  It fires up fast so you can have
that burger cooked and eaten before a charcoal grill would be ready to
cook.  Sometimes I've noticed a slight bit of "gas" taste to food but
it's not too bad; it beats having an overly strong charcoal taste.
Steve's first experiments with a smoker were on a charcoal one he'd
found; there were no instructions or anything and the food was all
horrible.  Then, in HI we got a new gas smoker/grill and his cooking
improved.  Got the same here in GA.  My favorite grill was the gas one
we had in AZ; it was the "standard" one you see most everywhere that
sort of looks like a barrel turned on its side and set on a stand.  I
used it a lot in the summer for cooking as it was right outside the
kitchen so I could keep an eye on other things while grilling (if Steve
wasn't doing the grilling).  It had a full shelf and a half one; the
half one was great for cooking pork chops or chicken without over
cooking as they tended to do on the lower shelf.  I'd rather have that
grill than the Brinkman R2D2 we had in HI or its clone we have here but
Steve is the head grill master so............

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.

Overall, I'd go with gas.
