=======================
Hulloooooooo Michael!
I answered this yesterday in Albuquerque but I think the cheap wifi at the
holiday Inn ate the message as I don't see it here in teh echo...I'll try
again,
this time from the hilton in Santa Fe.

-> HN> Mexico...left Bodega on Thursday, stopped off in Hayward to visit
with
-> HN> a friend tried to visit a friend in Oakland (great flamenco player and
-> HN> superb guitar builder) but he wouldn't come to the phone(grin),so I
-> HN> made it as far as Barstow and stayed there last night, and came
east
->  HN> today.
->
-> Good for visiting friends. I have a friend in Oakland as well:
-> he's undergoing weekly treatments for a horrible disease (not
-> the A word, but almost as bad); I was thinking of using my
-> miles and visiting him and his family for a couple days (one of
-> the reasons I have all those miles, in addition to I like to fly,
-> is that I've banked them to be able to do things like that).
->
wanted to visit several friends, but time was short at best and only managed
to get one on the phone...so he's the one I stopped to see! Is this friend of
yours the same gent who had the suite at the Oakland game we were
supposed to go to a couple of years ago?

-> HN> alongside the road somewhere as well. Even that part was fun if you
-> HN> discount the incredible need to find a bathroom and NO way to do it
->  HN> (grin).
->
-> Seasoned rush-hour travelers of the male variety travel
-> with an empty quart bottle.
->
I don't think a quart would have done the job!

-> -> Chicago to France took 8 hours. Chicago to Arkansas took 8 hours.
-> -> The former averaged a bit over 500 mph. The latter, well, you
-> -> beat me by about 3 mph.
-> HN> Made really good time across a big strech of Arizona...had a
-> HN> testarossa pass me and I tried to keep up with him for about 35
-> HN> minutes or so...it's nice to have someone willing to do a hundred
-> HN> miles an hour and run cover for you (grin). Speed limit was 75 and I
->
-> Of course, when I was unknowingly being beaten by you by 3 mph,
-> I spent many hours completely stationary - fog in Chicago,
-> tornadoes in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, etc.
->
There were reports of horrible storms and such in New Mexico but when I got
here the weather turned perfect! Lots of sunshine and a nice breeze. A bit
more sunshine than I am used to but I'm putting up with it! We took the
worlds longest tramway up to Sandia Peak and it was 47 up top
(10,300something feet up), verrrrry nice up there! it was 77 at the base and
a bit warm for me! We had dinner the first night at the County Line BBQ, not
bad I had pork rib combo plate (4 ribs, beef brisket and a sausage) pretty
good but that was the toughest sausage I'd ever had! Anne had beef brisket
and loved it! last night we went to a Mediterranian place called Pars Cuisine,
we didn't feel like a huge meal so we ordered several appetisers and a
chicken kabob. We each had spanokapita, we split an order of dolmas (6) and
falafel (3 patties), everything was good and I ordered a glass of pinot noir
(Chamone? 2005) and it was very good! I got blueberries, and vanilla, and
oak. I liked it a lot!

-> HN> set the cruise at 84 and enjoyed the ride....of course when the red
-> HN> sports car was ahead of me I went up to 95 for a while 8-)
->
-> After our concert, EL's daughter Kristen drove us back in EL's
-> vintage Merc. The car likes 80-90 (having been designed for the
-> Autobahn), and, put it this way, we got from Fayetteville to
-> Kristen's house and back to EL's in the time we normally took
-> just to go from Fayetteville to EL's.
->
Well the stretch across Arizona is pretty straight and it's easy to get the
speed up from the posted 75. I was doing 84 on cruise and still getting
passed by bunches of cars.

-> HN> Anne arrives tomorrow and we can start "vacationing"!!
->
-> Have a terrific time.
->
Having a supberb time! Today is Santa Fe and the Georgia O'Keefe
Museum..it took my breath away! I've always been a big fan of both her and
Alfred Stieglitz for a long time and this was the primary reason for choosing
New Mex for this trip. I was transfixed! We had a late lunch at the O'Keefe
Cafe which is right next door to the museum ....another glass of pinot noir as
well (grin) This time it was a Chilean pinot noir reserve, a 2005 Casablanca
ventisquero , much lighter in color than the one we had last night, and lighter

in flavor as well I think, both were excellent glasses but quite different as
well! Anne had a chicken breast sandwich with cranberry jam and I had
a "New Mexico" cheesesteak...both were very good, but we were clever and
did not have more than the one which we shared...at this altitude I don't
want to let it get the better of me! We took a short stroll around the area of
the hotel and I am just blown away by all the adobe walls there are for me to
photograph! (I don't know what it is about adobe that is so compelling for me
but there ya go...it is!) Angles, sky, and just a hint of color, I wish I had
broght my watercolors as well...I'll be taking lots of photos to refer to when
I
get back!
Well now I am sitting in the lobby of the hilton...wifi doesn't reach the room
(dang it!) and for some reason the DSL connection doesn't like me either. I
think Anne and I will do a little gallery walking in a few minutes!
Just to work up an appetite for dinner y'know!
chat with you soon
