=======================
Hello Michael!

-> HN> wanted to visit several friends, but time was short at best and only
-> HN> managed to get one on the phone...so he's the one I stopped to
see! Is
-> HN> this friend of yours the same gent who had the suite at the Oakland
-> HN> game we were supposed to go to a couple of years ago?
->
-> That's the guy, June '05. They ended up having extra seats, so
-> they invited his troublemaking mean-drunk sister (if you and
-> AJ had been able to make it, he could have said, oh, rats, we're
-> full up) and some teenage friends of the kids.
->
We certainly wanted to make it work, would have been a fun time I'm sure!
On a side note I see from the papers that the Mariners have beaten the A's
two straight to start the season...I think they only beat them twice all last
season!

-> -> Seasoned rush-hour travelers of the male variety travel
-> -> with an empty quart bottle.
->  HN> I don't think a quart would have done the job!
->
-> Braggart.
->
Not at all, (grin) I was that desperate!

-> -> Of course, when I was unknowingly being beaten by you by 3 mph,
-> -> I spent many hours completely stationary - fog in Chicago,
-> -> tornadoes in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, etc.
-> HN> There were reports of horrible storms and such in New Mexico but
when
-> HN> I got here the weather turned perfect! Lots of sunshine and a nice
->  HN> breeze.
->
-> Good for you - as you may remember my writing, when Carol and I went
-> out to the Sonoran Desert, it rained cats and dogs. Last night Ella
-> Lou and I were watching the Science Channel show about deserts, and
-> they made this big thing about the Sonoran being so dry, and I just
-> about laughed my head off.
->
Weather has been very cooperative for us so far! Getting a bit cooler today
and we are heading out from Santa Fe for ABQ again...I'll never stay at the
Hilton in Santa Fe again...the place only gets about a 3 out of ten, very
dissappointing as the staff is quite good...
Yesterday we went out and visited one of the nearby Pueblo's (San
Ildefonso) and I was quite disenchanted with it. 5 bux to enter, 10 for a
camera permit, and most of the area was marked "off limits" on the little
hand drawn map that was given. Wonderful pottery though.

-> HN> County Line BBQ, not bad I had pork rib combo plate (4 ribs, beef
-> HN> brisket and a sausage) pretty good but that was the toughest
sausage
-> HN> I'd ever had! Anne had beef brisket and loved it! last night we went
->
-> I've had some pretty tough sausage lately - I think they're not
-> putting enough fat into the grind, so you get a dry, tough bite
-> - but can think you're being virtuous while working your jaws.
->
It was quite lean and tough yes....I did get PLENTY of exercise chewing it!

-> HN> to a Mediterranian place called Pars Cuisine, we didn't feel like a
-> HN> huge meal so we ordered several appetisers and a chicken kabob.
We
-> HN> each had spanokapita, we split an order of dolmas (6) and falafel (3
->
-> Not something I'd think of doing in the desert southwest!
->
It was late, it was close, we were sort of hungry but knew we'd be really
hungry later if we didn't eat something.

-> HN> patties), everything was good and I ordered a glass of pinot noir
-> HN> (Chamone? 2005) and it was very good! I got blueberries, and vanilla,
->  HN> and  oak. I liked it a lot!
->
-> Chalone? A fairly good house.
->
Ah Chalone! I'll have to look for it I liked it quite a bit!
The other night I had another glass of pinot...this time Gruet a New Mexican
winery (has a tasting room in ABQ so I might drop in), quite a bit "thinner"
than the other two we've had...still nice but not nearly as good as the
previous ones.

-> HN> Having a supberb time! Today is Santa Fe and the Georgia O'Keefe
-> HN> Museum..it took my breath away! I've always been a big fan of both
her
-> HN> and Alfred Stieglitz for a long time and this was the primary reason
-> HN> for choosing New Mex for this trip. I was transfixed! We had a late
-> HN> lunch at the O'Keefe Cafe which is right next door to the museum
->
-> The only disappointment I had was the small size of the collection.
-> I've been to several exhibitions (the best at the Palace of Something
-> in San Francisco) that were tons more extensive. Of course, just having
-> one piece (as the Arizona State University Museum does, which I visited
-> a while back) is a feather in the cap of many institutions, so I should
-> not fuss.
->
I dunno, that was the largest single exhibition of G's work I have ever
encountered and as I said I was transfixed! Some of her watercolor
abstracts from the 1915-1919 era were an epiphany for me, a lot like what I
am painting now on my postcards! Made me feel a lot better about my own
work! (grin) We'll drop back by today to visit the gift shop!

-> Happy travels!
->
Having a ball! Last night's early dinner was at Tomasita's a mexican place
near the hotel....very very good! Anne had a sopapilla stuffed with roast
beef, and I had the big combo plate with 1 taco (great meat!), one enchilada
(super!), one tamale (wonderful!), and one relleno stuffed with beef (Wow)
and mine came with both red an green chile...both very good but not really
that hot...Anne asked for her green chile on the side and I added hers to
mine! Late last night we decided to have a coctail in the bar and Anne had a
smith and currens, I had armagnac at 12 bux a shot I thought it a bargain!
Today we check out late and then off to ABQ again till the end of the week.
chat with you next time I get a free wifi connection (here at the hilton it's
10.50 perday charge and the connection is lousey so I made them drop the
charge and I'm using the "business center" for a fido fix!
chat with you soon!
