========================================================================
Good morning Ruth!
->
-> -> hn> in New Mex. Lots of wonderful scenery to enjoy! We made this trip
-> -> hn> "Albuquerque and North" which basically meant Albuquerque and
->  hn> Santa Fe
-> -> hn> and some side day trips in between to some Pueblo's and
->  hn> the "outback".
->
-> -> IOW, a part of NM we've not covered. We know the I-10 portion too
well
-> -> from trips to Fort Bliss while at Huachuca. For trips north we'd do the
-> -> Deming cut off to I-25 to I-40, except this last time when we threw in
-> -> one more side road unexpectedly. Steve has a great aunt in Amarillo
we
-> -> wanted to see on our way out to GA.
->
-> hn> I sort of wanted to get down south but time was a factor and we
had so
-> hn> much on the list of what we wanted to do that it became clear that
one
-> hn> trip would never make it all happen...so we decided this trip would be
-> hn> north next trip would be south (grin). Primary reason North won was
->
-> So, are you planning that for next year? I'd like to see more of the
-> state as well but haven't been able to yet. I want to get over to
-> Carlsbad Caverns some day; we've toured several major cave/cavern
-> systems before but not done this one yet.
->
Probably not next year, but hopefully within the next 3 or 4.

-> hn> that's where the Georgia O'Keefe museum is and I was NOT going to
miss
->  hn> that!
->
->
-> That's one reason for me to head north. The Southern Baptist Convention
-> has a conference grounds in Glorietta, outside of Santa Fe, that we
-> might get to some time for a conference. If so, we can side trip into
-> Santa Fe. My younger brother has been to the Boy Scout camp at Philmont
-> several times.
->
I never made it to Philmont but wanted to every year that I was a scout
(grin).

-> -> Steve had to do a PT test shortly after arriving at Fort Huachuca from
-> -> Fort Devens, Mass. It was not one of his better runs. (G)
->
-> hn> we were pretty careful to try and stay within our limits and for the
-> hn> most part we did a pretty good job....had no chest pains or need for
-> hn> nitro during the entire trip, even though we did do a couple of fairly
-> hn> strenuous hikes (at least for us at that altitude!).
->
-> I'd make sure I had my asthma meds handy--as in, in my pocket. Right now
-> the foot wouldn't be able to take much hiking but it does seem to be
-> doing better. The surgery appears to have fixed the problem.
->
I would think New Mex (and most of the desert Southwest) would be an
asthma sufferer's nightmare! I am glad that it looks like they've finally
addressed (and repaired) the damage to your foot! You'll be dancing a jig in
no time at all!
->
-> ->  hn> I plan to make stops for photo's I usually DRIVE when I drive
(grin).
-> -> hn> I went from Albuquerque to Kingman AZ on the first day and didn't
->
-> -> That's a lot of driving!  I know it's a straight shot but I'd be
-> getting -> saddle sores.
->
-> hn> My minivan has the most comfortable drivers seat I have ever
-> experienced! I don't feel tired even after a full day (12-14 hours) of
-> hn> driving. It's more comfortable than my couch at home!
->
-> What kind of van was it that you got? IIRC, it was one of the ones we
-> looked at at one point. Steve liks the Focus wagon we ended up with,
-> especially after he found the seat adjustments levers. He said it is
-> really comfortable for long trip driving.
->
I got the Ponitac Montana SV6, and I absolutely LOVE it. Easy to get into,
easy to get out of, comfortable to spend a day of driving in it, and it can
carry plenty of load as well. I have been VERY happy with it!

-> ->  hn> places I may not do more than 100-200 miles a day....but like I
said I
-> -> hn> have a tendency to get from one place to the other with few
stops
->
-> -> Easy for you to do. Just thought I'd suggest a couple of our favorite
-> -> places along I-10. Of course you know our attraction in Vegas. (G)
->
-> hn> I like I-10 but it's waaaay too far south and would have added
another
-> hn> full day of driving to the trip. You could just rename Vegas to
->  hn> Grandbabyville (grin)!
->
-> It is that for us. (G) One of our friends is going there next month to
-> see the kids. She and her husband let David stay with them his last
-> year and a half of high school; our girls have always thought of them as
-> another set of parents so they are unofficial grandparents to Robert, as
-> we are to their 5 grand kids.
->
Make sure that they make a video for you! (grin)
->
-> -> hn> the odds are? (grin) But I didn't think of that unitl I was already
in
-> ->  hn> California headed north.
->
-> -> 20/20 hindsight. How are the Mariners expected to do this year? If
-> -> they make the series and are against the Mets, we'll have to make sure
-> -> not to get too "into it" against each other here. (G)
->
-> hn> The improvements they made in the off season seem to be panning
out,
-> hn> if the pitching can hold up to the level and they can generate enough
-> hn> offense they may have a good chance. We play in a tough division
->
-> OK, NY is expected to be the top on in the division this year. Of
-> course living in GA, 99.99%of our baseball coverage is the Braves so
-> I have to hunt down the fine print for the Mets scores.
->
Well you do live in the "land of the braves" (grin)

-> -> hn> Had a wonderful drive across the Mojave with the Ocotillo in
bloom!
->
-> -> Pretty! Did you get any pictures? We went thru the desert in late
-> -> August but didn't stop as it was too hot. Rental car had a temperature
-> -> sensor for the outside; it read something like 115 at one point.
->
-> hn> Nope didn't do anything more than admire the view from the front
seat
-> hn> and 80 miles an hour (grin). I did however really enjoy the view!
-> hn> Anne's car has an external temp sensor and last year when we went
down
-> hn> to visit Amanda we hit high temps on the way back....117 in the
->  hn> central valley!
->
-> I've been in that hot and probably hotter. Those are the times you get
-> anything you can to drink; we went thru several bottles of water a day
-> when we visited the kids last year. I didn't see out there a lot o what
-> I see here tho--if you've had tea with a meal out, they will ask if you
-> want a "to go" cup if you've not drunk all. Then, if you say yes, it's
-> a large cup with your leftover tea, topped off, and extra ice at no
-> extra charge. They make sure you stay hydrated.
->
I've been that hot and hotter as well....not that I enjoy it much (grin) but
there are times when you just have to suffer through it. A number of years
back we made another trip to the SanFrancisco Bay area and south ot Santa
Cruz and Monterey. On the way back we crossed over to the central valley
to catch I-5 north...it was in the 120's that day and we had no AC in our
little car and we suffered all the way north to Redding in extreme heat in the
car. Anne was pouring bottles of water over my head as I drove just to keep
me a little bit cooler. It was HORRIBLE and I vowed it'd never happen again!
Now I make sure our cars have AC if nothing else!
chat with you soon
