The bar was separated from the dining room by a partition
that didn't go all the way to the ceiling but probably was
designed to satisfy the minimum requirements of the statute!

Indeed. We were actually headed to Bottom of the Bay, but
we decided to go the wrong way on US 1 for a while, which
prompted my sharp-eyed [g] discovery of the place. If we'd
had a few hours' advance planning, we might have actually
asked you to come along ... but as it turns out, it wasn't
really worth it (though not an unpleasant experience).

I have heard mixed things, so I went to Chowhound, which is
not so reliable except that I have this algorithm: ignore all
favorable posts except by posters known to be good; take all
unfavorable posts with a grain of salt until there's a consensus.
The consensus on Gunning's is that they precook their crabs (in
which case you might as well go to the Chinese buffet for the
snow crab legs). Here's a typical post:

 The last time I was there a few years ago the place was a
 total tourist trap and tried to pass reheated crabs to this
 local gal to the tune of $70 a dozen for what were not even
 larges. Good riddence

It would seem to be wiser for the restaurants to include a mention
of steamed crabs, if only to say "steamed crabs in season, market
price." But most of them remain silent on the subject. Maybe they
always sell out anyhow, so why advertise them.

I too am curious about the quality of the food at Mike's. What
little I saw looked good, but we were there just for drinks (we
had had a meal just before with some people including an IRS
agent, see other post here).

Mike's: double crabcake dinner, 27; softshell dinner, 20; 12-oz
steak, 21. Sandwiches reasonable. I.e., competitive on the high side.
