Yep, too many parents try to turn their kids into little replicas of themselves

(or what they wish they had been).  I was happy to have Amanda discover 
herself and become happy with who SHE was! (besides, NO WAY did I want a 
kid like I was ! HORRORS!!!)

That's the best way to let em get those first tastes of independence! Where 
you can rescue em quickly and safely if need be!

-> One of the 'games' we parents play is 'post the sentry'.  One of the kids 
-> stands out where all can see them as the others wander in and then they 
collect

-> back to the 'sentry' then they swap off (so that one gets to have fun 
too).  
-> It's slightly scarey fun for the kid the first time as they are out there

-> 'alone' but everyone gathers back then wander to the next spot.  It's for

You forget, I was a boomer sailor....we never got to visit liberty ports other 
than when in transit to or from the yards or to a new "base" . But I know 
what you're talking about, I did it with Amanda and her friends when they 
were that age...only I usually ended up being the "sentry" all the time (grin)!
