I know that the fact that Hap and Anne aren't in Kansas
any more sort of deflates the humor of it all, but I just
had to point that out.

Well, there's a fort there, and, if I recall, the federal
clink might still be there as well.

But a firing up of the mighty Streets and Trips 2002 (had to
reinstall an earlier version when this stupid box started acting
up last year) shows the following fun destinations in downtown

Sounds like maybe a worthwhile place to satisfy a serious
Schweinshaxe jones without paying the fare to Munich ...

Schweinshaxe
cat: German, Bavarian, main, vegetable
servings: 1 to 2

1 kg pork hocks (1 lg or 2 sm)
salt
pepper
paprika 
20 g lard
1 onion
1 bay leaf
1 ts juniper berries
1/2 ts whole cloves
1 ts whole mustard seeds
1 c water
1/2 c beer
2 ts cornstarch

Oven at 400F/200C. Slash skin on pork hock in a diamond 
pattern and rub with salt, pepper, and paprika. Heat fat in a 
Dutch oven and brown hocks well on all sides for 10 min. Peel 
and quarter onion and add to pot along with spices. Pour 1/2 c
boiling water over all and place uncovered in oven. Roast for 
1 hr, turning hocks occasionally and basting with some of the 
beer. Add a bit more water if necessary. When done, remove hocks 
and deglaze pot with remaining water and beer. Bring to a boil
and add cornstarch, stirring until thickened. Season with pepper
and salt to taste.
