That's all well and good, but what got me was the
"large medium" part, not the number.

But now I've got you on the line, maybe you can explain
why they don't just barcode all the fruit; as they stick
something on each piece anyhow, why make the checkout
person have to take the time to key in a number?

Gotta remember that Japan is a real noodle culture, whereas
we are not, particularly. Actually, most Pacific cuisines take
pasta to a level unattained in this country, or, in fact,
anywhere else except maybe (maybe) Italy. There are literally
dozens of kinds of ramen (also called larmen in Japan or saimin
in Hawaii), and this genre of noodle (fried and dried thin ones)
is only one subset of a huge variety. The ones that are imported
into (and a few actually made in) this country are almost always
the Top/Nissin/Oodles/Maruchan brands, which are almost
indistinguishable. If you can find a handy Asian market, though,
you can find others, some even of different thicknesses; the
specialty ones can cost up to a buck a packet.

To be fair to us who eat a whole pack, the 2 43-gram servings
come out to 380 Calories, and that if you drink the cooking
liquid and use all the flavor packet. If you don't use much of
the flavor pack and throw out the water, you can cut out close
to 100 of those Calories. Bear in mind that the things were not
designed as a diet food, but rather a cheap and efficient way
of getting nourishment into human bodies. College students all
over the world realize this, even if their elders do not.

By comparison, a 2-oz (57 grams) serving of regular spaghetti
has 210 Calories, but who eats just 1/8 of a pack at a meal?
I eat at least 1/5 lb, which is about the same in caloric
value as a whole ramen pack. And I am not by any means fat,
merely pleasingly plump.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v7.07

      Title: Cold Noodles
 Categories: Chinese, Pasta
   Servings:  2

      2    Bean curd; shredded
    1/4 lb Bean sprouts
      1    Carrot; shredded
      1    Cucumber; shredded
      3    Pieces of celery; shredded
      1 lb Fresh noodles
      1 tb Oil

MMMMM------------------------------SAUCE-----------------------------------
      3 tb Sesame paste
      6 tb Soy sauce
      1 tb Vinegar
      1 pn Ginger root
      1 ts Chili sauce
      1 tb Sesame oil
      2 tb Water
      1 tb Crushed peanuts
      1 pn Parsley

  Put noodles into boiling water and cook until water boils again. (Oriental
  Noodles for eating cold might be subst. for fresh noodles) Then add 1/2 cup
  cold water and cook until noodles are tender. Remove noodles and flush with
  cold running water for 1 minute, then drain. Add 1 tablespoon oil into
  noodle.

  Boil bean sprouts, shredded carrots, and shredded celery briefly and then
  chill.  Combine with noodles.

  Mix Sauce ingredients thoroughly and pour over the top of the noodles,
  sprinkle with crushed peanuts and parsley.
