8s are pretty big - I can seldom afford those. 26-30 are what
I've been using lately, and their shells fry up nice and crisp.

We went to Hellas last night, because I was fussing about how
Carol bought 93% lean ground beef, and I don't like that stuff.

She started off with cream of crab soup, which the waiter tried
to discourage, saying it wasn't thick enough today; it came
about the perfect consistency, thick but not gravylike. Tasted
quite good, though the crabmeat (including what can only be
called superjumbo lumps) was pasteurized and clearly not native.

I ordered the daily special, "shrimp night," a pound of steamed
32-40s for $8, and it didn't come and didn't come, and finally
the waiter came with a puny plate of shrimp, just over half a
pound, saying that we'd be charged only half, as they'd run out,
and these were all they had (it was the special, and I'd ordered
at around 6:15 pm!). These were okay, not salty, with not enough
Old Bay (last time there had been too much), kind of tasteless,
and I needed the bowl of cocktail sauce that came with. They
were shrimpy enough so the shells were almost edible as is.

Carol's main course was a gyro sandwich, which was typical,
perhaps not so huge as in the good old days; but back then,
it was kind of impossible to finish, so maybe this way was
better. I had the crabcake sandwich, a huge cake of mostly
those same nonnative pasteurized jumbo lumps, a bit of eggy
bready filler (not too much); it tasted pretty good but was
nowhere so nice as the delicate-flavored, silky smooth
Maryland blue crabmeat. The bun was stale, so I discarded it
in favor of a slice of the decent bread that had been served
when we were seated.

Both our sandwiches came with decent thick-cut fries.

Yuengling was only $2.95 a pint, which is I believe less than
it used to be. Plus they ended up not charging for the shrimp
at all. A fair meal at what turned out to be a good price.
