Hi Glen,

GJ> You should be able to get a "HEPA" grade filter element which would
GJ> fit, which will stop just about anything.

RH> We got something similar. It has to be rinsed every 3 months but the
RH> packaging said it would last up to 6 years of use. Considering we'll
RH> be gone in less than 2 years, it should work for us.

GJ> Sounds good. If it is designed to be washable that saves a lot of
GJ> money, for just a little effort.

Seems to be doing well so far but we've only had it in a couple of
weeks. We'll pull it out and wash it probably either just before we go
on leave or after coming home & then find out how well it really works.
Hopefully better than the GI ones that are next to useless.

RH> should have withstood a major blow, as well as the quarters which were
 RH> concrete block.

GJ> Did you ever get hit with a really big blow? I'm sure it would be a
 GJ> terrifying experience.

No but we've had several scares. When we were in San Angelo, TX (spring
of 84) we figure a tornado went over the mobile home we were living in
but touched down elsewhere. We've been on the edge of some big storms
but not gone thru one which is a surprise seeing that we've lived in
prime territory for hurricanes, tornadoes and such like for many years.

RH> Southern AZ climate; the northern part has more of a seasonal
RH> (including heavy snows in winter) climate. But, we liked the southern

GJ> No snow in the centre of Australia, although there are occasional
GJ> frosts at night in Alice Springs, which is almost in the tropics.

We'd have at least one minor snow storm each winter where the snow would
be gone once the sun hit it. April 96 we had one tht dumped about 6" on
post; January 97 one gave us about 10" and closed the interstate 30
miles north of us from a couple of miles to the west to the NM/TX
border. That was mostly ice under snow tho.

RH> out, we found out they had a new (2 days old) cook book put out by
RH> Uncle Bubba with some of the recipes for what we had in it. Steve got
RH> me that and the 2nd Paula Deen cook book that has more of what we had.

RH> Yes; it's mostly the extra income thing. Paula and her brother
RH> feature good home style southern cooking; nothing fancy but filling.
RH> We were out this past Saturday and picked up the stuff for the Key lime
RH> pie which we'll probably make tomorrow.

GJ> That is something which I have not yet tried. It sounds like
GJ> something I would quite like.

It is good! Rich as all get out but really good! Have you ever had a
lemon merainge (spelt wrong, I know) pie? Key lime is on the same order
using the key, not the common Persian limes. Key limesare smaller and
"puck-er-i-er", if there is souch a word. (G)

RH> Iron Chef Maurimoto did a shabu-shabu pot last night. The secret
RH> ingredient was chilis so in the beginning of the show, he was tasting
RH> several as he cut them up, not being familiar with them. He was shown
RH> spitting out a jalapeno & rinsing his mouth. All in all, he did quite
RH> well, beating the challenger on taste but losing out by one point
RH> because of not enough originality and plating creativity. One of the
RH> judges was a female Japanese food writer/critc; she had a hard time
RH> dealing with some of the dishes and the heat in them.

GJ> I usually watch that show, although most of what we get is years late.
GJ> In spite of Wasabi familiarity, the Japanese foodies would find
GJ> chilies difficult to deal with.

You may get this show in a few years then. It was interesting to see how
well he adapted to using something so completly unfamiliar--and doing a
creditable job of it against somebody who cooked in that style on a
regular basis.

GJ> Title: Toriwasa (Chicken & Parsley with Horseradish Sauce)
 GJ> Categories: Japanese, Chicken
 GJ> Yield: 6 Servings

Simple, but looks like it would taste good.
