i guess that's one of the reasons why i have stayed with xnews since i found
it... ultra simplicity with no install mess that spreads dlls and mess all over
the place... just put it in a directory and fire it up... then you set up an
account to use on one or more servers and then set up one or more servers...
once that's done and you've associated an account with a server (default
account or specific account), you just double click on the server and then, for
a first time out, load the groups list... then it is a simple matter of
clicking on the green ball to change it into a blue arrow for the
subscription... after that, any time you open that server, there's your group
list... i've even turned on the setting that removes groups from the display if
there's no new messages in them... xnews does have filters and scoring but i
don't even use them, really...

i don't have any real preferences for any other platforms at this time... i
just use what i have available and curse the fact that the server doesn't store
the lastread pointers so that i don't have to play catch up on each of my
machines and OS' :(
