Well, that'll be a mild diversion. I understand, anyway, that
Texas is air-conditioned now.

... more than is good for his pocketbook, he means.

I don't think eating bland food makes one's palate suffer so
much as ingesting liquids that taste like paint thinner.

I've seen people put suitcases bigger than Carol into the overhead
bin. Today's flight from New York to Boston featured one such - of
course, he was in seat 1A, so that his bag took up the entire overhead
space of row 2. It also featured a distinct lack of Courvoisier, so
I had a gin and tonic instead. The flight attendant asked me if I
were celebrating something.

I'll never live this down, will I. As mentioned various times
before, were I to make this for nonvegetarians, I would add
ground lamb or beef to the dish; were I to make it for myself,
I would substitute eggplant, capsicums, tomatoes, potatoes,
or pork chops for the zucchini.

Stuffed zucchini
cat: main, veg
serving: 1

1 md zucchini, halved
2 oz ground beef
2 Tb onion, minced
1/2 ts garlic, minced
1/8 ts thyme
1 ds ground sage, oregano, or rosemary
1/2 c cooked rice
salt & pepper to taste
1/3 c tomato sauce, homemade or from a can
grated cheese, optional
breadcrumbs, optional
white sauce, optional

Halve the zucchini and hollow out the halves. Salt the
shells and the pulp separately. Let stand 15 min.
Squeeze out water (gently from the shell, to keep it
intact, vigorously from the pulp). Rinse lightly and
squeeze again.

Meanwhile, saute the beef, onion, and seasonings. Add
the drained zucchini pulp. Cook until done. Stir in
the rice and then correct seasoning with salt and
pepper. Bind with 1 to 2 Tb tomato sauce. Stuff shells
with this (you will be generous and mound it high and
slop it over the sides). Put in an ovenproof casserole
and top with sauce. Bake, covered, at 350 F for about
25 min or until zucchini is done to your liking. Uncover
and sprinkle grated cheese and/or breadcrumbs and/or white
sauce on top. Return to oven until topping is browned.
