A small-bore shotgun perhaps might be able to bring down one or
two at a time without the need for extremely accurate aiming.
Now that you mention it, an airgun wouldn't be the proper tool
for Kevin to use.

I feel no compunction about eating our feathered enemies and
probably should make them the mainstay of my diet rather than
the unfortunate bovine and porcine creatures against whom I
carry little or no animus.

A swimming pool is a conspicuous use of water, but it's not
necessarily the most heinous. I'd say that Los Angeles proper
and its general nastiness and uselessness has a lot more to
answer for than do a few artificial ponds.

In years past we have had such interesting phenomena as
middle-aged intoxicated listeners berating us for playing the
service songs (July 4th is a largely "patriotic" occasion)
in the wrong order as determined by protocol (we play the
Coast Guard song second, after Army, which apparently
ruffles feathers), shouting absurd and even not-so-absurd
requests (of the "Play Misty for me" sort rather than the
"Play in tune, damn it" sort), and coming up to the queue
when the call has gone out for children to volunteer to
"conduct" the orchestra in one number (this year, the
selection chosen for this type of sacrifice was Aladdin,
which I believe was from some sort of Disney movie).

Oriental Steamed Crabs
cat: shellfish, Australian
servings: 3 to 4

6 to 8 fresh uncooked crabs
50 g fresh ginger, peeled and sliced thinly
1/3 c oyster sauce
1/3 c chicken marinade (Lee Kum Kee's is good)
355 mL beer
a slurp of olive oil
1 Tb corn flour
6 spring onions, sliced on angle

Clean crabs, remove back, de-knuckle legs and claws, remove
'dead man's fingers' (gills). Lightly wash out and drain
upside down on absorbent paper.

In a heavy base saucepan with lid, heat oil medium to hot,
add crabs upside down, replace lid and cook for 1 min.

In a separate pan, heat ginger in a touch of oil on medium
heat. Add oyster and chicken sauce, 'coral' from crab shell
and corn flour.

Turn crab over, add beer, replace lid, steam 1 min. Add the
ginger mix, toss crabs, add spring onion, and replace lid
for another 1 min.

Serve in white bowls with finger bowls.
