I get the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) publications 
and Mother Earth News - now that they have been bought by, and are being 
run by a non-New York City firm. I may even re-subscribe to Mother Earth 
now that they are back to the direction of the ideals that the 
Shuttleworths (founding publishers) espoused.

This set ought to be required reading for everyone in the Department of 
Energy, USDA, EPA, etc. Instead of spending my tax $$$ trying to 
reinvent the wheel - with just a dab of homework they could set their 
feet on paths that have been proven to work.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06
 
      Title: Boulevard's Artichoke & Potato Truffade
 Categories: Pork, Potatoes, Cheese
      Yield: 8 servings
 
      4 oz Bacon; diced
      2 tb Olive oil
      2 lb Yukon Gold potatoes; peeled,
           -thin sliced
           -Salt and pepper
      4 c  Sliced cooked artichoke
           -hearts
    1/4 lb Gruyere cheese; coarse
           -grated
 
  Chef Nancy Oakes likes to serve this with game or roast chicken.
  
  Render the bacon in a large, heavy skillet until lightly browned.
  Remove from pan with a slotted spoon, leaving the fat in the pan. Add
  the oil to the pan, then the potatoes; season with salt and pepper.
  (Remember that bacon and cheese are salty.) Cover and cook over low
  heat for 10 minutes. Turn the potatoes. Add the bacon and artichokes;
  cover and cook for 10 minutes. Turn the mixture again, crushing the
  potatoes. Cover and cook for 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are
  tender. Turn the mixture, crushing the potatoes again. Sprinkle the
  cheese over the top and let melt.
  
  Put the skillet into a preheated 500-degree oven until the cheese
  browns, about 5 minutes. Turn out onto a platter and serve
  immediately.
  
  Serves 8
