Because technology ain't everything. The old design was the
result of some centuries of gradual improvement fueled by
24-hour-a-day-for-their-professional-lives obsessives, followed
by one flight of fancy by the brothers Amati or some of their
immediate predecessors, names unknown.

Those were the days when instruments were the artistic voices
of the mainstream, and a certain cachet adhered to the profession.

Nowadays, only a certifiable nutcase would spend time on this
kind of research, with the result that those who might have the
creativeness to improve on the design (and I am not saying that
the design could definitely be improved) are stockbrokers and
such, and acoustic research of this sort is left to the likes
of Hutchins and Nagyvary and Zaret (all of whom I have met and
of whose intelligence, sanity, and/or bona fides I have a 
substantially low opinion).

Quite coincidentally. I think that most of the music written
before 1700 is boring nonsense; as far as I am concerned,
music began with Bach and is kind of petering out, with
Gershwin and the Beatles being a sort of last gasp.

2 oz Irish Mist
1 ds blue Curacao

Pour Irish Mist over crushed ice in a rocks glass.
Add Curacao and stir until drink is a uniform green.
