Non-TJ's tastes:

Little Debbie Snow Puffs - a knockoff of Hostess Snowballs,
these claim 100 Calories per serving. Instead of the rather
elegant construction of the Snowball, we have a flat round of
cake topped with a blob of marshmallow and strewn with coconut.
The cake is nice and moist (each confection - only 100 Calories
because it's pretty small) but doesn't taste like anything
except sweet. The coconut and marshmallow are fine.

Fresca - haven't had this in a while. As I recall, it used
to have cyclamates and tasted nasty, with a strong artificial
sweetener taste. Now, it's made with aspartame, and it still
tastes nasty, with a strong artificial sweetener taste. The
grapefruit flavor is not so nice as that of Squirt.

Macmurray Ranch Pinot Noir (Sonoma) 05 - typical plum and
tropical nose, good body, rich color. Way too sweet, a bit of
leather along with the fruit on the palate. With a little less
r.s. it would have been a decent wine. Pleasant fruity finish.

Rice Puddin [Chinese characters: ba bao fan] - Imported by: Yuan
Da Trading Inc. -  Ingredients: glutinous rice, red bean paste,
corn oil, sugar, red dates, nuts, watermelon seeds - this was
one of my father's standard meals at home; I tried one the other
day, as I didn't want to spend much time cooking, as there were
plenty of other things to do, and this stuff microwaves from
frozen in 2 minutes. Well, other than being unnecessarily greasy,
it is a decent facsimile of the real thing, though a bit light
on the "treasures" of the eight treasures, of which there were
only five: red bean, red date, walnuts, ginkgo, and watermelon
seeds (shelled). The shocker is the nutrition information: the
little pack, under half a pound, packs 20.6 g fat and 28 g sugar
and 630 Calories. Whoof, no wonder my father's diabetes went
out of control.

Hickory Farms Italian brand beef salami - light mottled pink,
like a normal salami only lighter - texture and mouthfeel of
near-pure fat. Flavor of fat with a little smoke and a little
garlic. I tried frying a couple slices, expecting total
shrinkage. Got about 50% shrinkage, not much different from
a real sausage. A nice fermented taste came out that had been
submerged by the fattiness. Verdict: I'd eat it if offered;
buy? never; recommend? never.

Carol left me some stuff after she visited over July 4, including
a couple sample packets of breakfast cereal.

Fiber One Honey Clusters (51% Daily Value of Fiber; 13 Grams of
Fiber; Low in Fat; 1.5 Grams of Fat) - these are mixed grain
flakes, somewhat cardboardy tasting, interspersed with these
airy balls of who-knows-what that seem to be a pale ghost of
cinnamon candy with maybe the faintest hint of honey taste.
Just slightly nastier than regular cereal and with quite a bit
of chew, owing no doubt to the fiber.

Oatmeal Crisp (made with whole grain oats) Hearty Raisin -
quite similar to the above (though less fibrous) and, tttt, to
most flake cereals. In this case the airy balls have no flavor
at all. Excessively sweet, with 20g sugar in a 62g serving.
