We know. But humans vary widely, and we make sometimes unjustified
generalizations about them every day.

It's funny how one of the most human-centric activities has
been largely taken over by machines. Feh, I say, feh, sir.

They can be all the cute you want, but if they are
culinary luddites, better steer a wide berth.

I lucked out: I got a cute one who is interested in food
and the other pleasures of life, How come many of the
cute ones are anhedonic?

Col Rellena - Stuffed Cabbage With Tropical Fruits
cat: Jewish, Spanish, main
Serves: 10

1 lg cabbage
2 lb ground beef
2 Tb fresh ground black pepper
1 Tb kosher salt
3 Tb vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
2 carrots, shredded
2 green apples, peeled and cubed
2 green mangos, peeled and cubed
2 c chopped fresh pineapple
1/2 c sugar
4 c canned tomato puree
4 bay leaves
1 ts lemon salt (citric acid)

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Core the cabbage
and discard the outer leaves before you put it into
the water. Boil for 5 min and drain.

Mix the beef with 1 Tb black pepper and a pinch of salt.

In a heavy saucepan, heat the oil and saute the onions
for 5 min at moderate heat. Add the carrots, apples, mango,
and pineapple. Stir constantly and season with salt.

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, caramelize the sugar,
stirring constantly so as to not let it burn. Pour the
caramel onto the fruits, add the tomatoes and bay leaves
and season with salt and pepper. Let sauce boil for 20
min while you make the cabbage rolls.

Start making the rolls by separating and laying flat 20 of
the better leaves. Divide the meat among them and then
start to carefully fold and roll each one. Shred the rest
of the cabbage and use it to line the bottom of a large
saucepan. Then place the stuffed cabbages carefully in the
pan; sprinkle with lemon salt and add 2 c water.

Cook over very low heat for 4 hr. Check constantly to see
if it needs water and/or more salt. This is better if
prepared 2 days in advance.
