*** Quoting MICHAEL LOO from a message to CAROL SHENKENBERGER ***

ML> Like their relatives the bluefish, when mackerel are really fresh,

ML> fishy nasty mighty quick, though. And canned, heaven forfend.

Same here. I like some oily fish (salmon is a fav) but Mackerel is one I am
sorta no longer amused with.

CS> or Osaka on the same day. Star Alliance I am pretty sure for both?

ML> Star lounges:

ML> Fukuoka - 2 ANA lounges, one domestic, one international
ML> Osaka - 4 ANA lounges, United Red Carpet Club
ML> Tokyo Narita - 2 ANA lounges, (dom + intl) United Red Carpet Club

Whick one is KIK you reference later? I did not recall that name as such but
now i think we've had it on luggage tags someplace along the line.

ML> At Fukuoka, there's a VIP lounge that can be booked by the
ML> hour, but the info is all in Japanese so I can't read it.
ML> Go to www.fuk-ab.co.jp/english for as many details as can
ML> be gleaned.

I know where that one is.

ML> At Narita, there are public "waiting" lounges at Terminal 1,
ML> Satellite 2, Floor 2 and Terminal 2, Main Building, 3rd floor.
ML> I imagine these are pretty basic if free; there are also pay

I'm suprised they even mention them. It's pretty much the open lobby area with
a few pay per use internet machines. (100 yen for 10 mins).

ML> lounges at Y1260/person-hour, quite expensive. Also an

No actually for here, thats pretty good. Thats 11$ an hour or 33$ for all of
us. If they serve free drinks though, I'd be suprised since that fee is too
low for such. I would expect a free internet WiFi though.

ML> Also bear in mind that service personnel are often (especially in
ML> the US) cut a break regarding lounge access. If that doesn't work,
ML> I've not been to the other two, but as far as Narita goes, I'd
ML> suggest you go find a decent restaurant and camp out there. That
ML> way you can eat, and it'll be cheaper.

Thats usually what we do. Service people do get a break, but in their own
country <g>. I won't be getting one as a US service person in Japan.
Japanese service members probably do and i can stateside.

McDonald for example used to give 10% off (away from military towns) if you
showed an ID card and knew to ask.

Appreciate the research there! We might just do our normal thing in Japan
which is camp out at a restraunt. In Japan airports, this is a nice way to
wait and the food is good. We even have a favorite one in Fukuoka.

Bad news. Typhoon headed just close enough to Okinawa this weekend, we lost
our fishing trip. Don's all bummed out and wants to just stay home. I'm
thinking to sweeten him up in a day or so and take us off on a short 'wander'
around. Not too far from home, just a sort of walkabout from the easy to
reach places off the train station.

I've been searching walking distance places for Saga, Tosu, and Fukuoka. Maybe
Kagoshima? All an easy train ride from where we are. I'm kinda thinking
Fukuoka might be best for the variety of things so a little stop in Saga or
Tosu on the way up might be good. Kagashima is the other direction and about
3 hours ride with little I can see to do between places.

Hotels will be a proble with this late of a booking though. Major Japanese
travel holiday these 2 weeks.

                                       xxcarol
