Ärende: Re: Korean eats
=======================
Hey Carol!
->
-> there. Real Korea, I recall from a place where we and another
adventurous
-> soul went to with low tables (sit on floor on mats) and ordered by
pointing at
-> a wall with a price and no clue of english anywheres on what we were
getting.
-> 3 hours later and stuffed to the gills, we waddled out, leaving food we
just
-> couldnt eat all of. I think it was about 8$ for both of us. Little of
it was
-> meat but it was all great stuff.
->
Thank goodness they had tables and booths here...with my back I can't sit
on the floor very well! (btw you should get and MRI done on your back so
you KNOW what's going on with it!)

-> HN> venturing in. Most Menus are in Korean and only some of them have
engl
-> HN> listings included.
->
-> Eat there. Thats a good sign actually. They do not have to cater to
round
-> eyes if they can stay open that way, so you are getting the real thing.
->
-> I've eaten at places where you just close your eyes and point at a menu
and
-> make sure your buddies do the same but point at something else <g>. No
english
->
-> at all sort of places. They generally giggle and feed us well. It's
fun and
-> my only 'Korean' is to be able to say 'Kimchee'. I do note that as a
round eye
-> I suprise them as i almost always want seconds of kimchee.
->
We have a very (VERY) large Korean Community here so there are lots and
lots of Korean eating places that are very good. I took Michael to one of
my fav's on his last trip out here.

-> As far as i am considered, there are 5 food groups. Meat, fruits and
veggies,
-> bread, cheese, and Kimchee <g>. If you absolutely must separate them, it
-> becomes 6 as you separate fruits from veggies.
->
What? no CHOCOLATE????? (grin)

-> Should Ruth or Steve get up your way, take them to the Korean BBQ place
as it
-> will be either a bit of home, or a place they will be familiar with and
love.
->
Oh I'm sure they'd find our Korean area quite exciting!

->
-> HN> the fish cake was tan colored (which made me think of tofu) and flat
c
-> HN> into small ribbons about an inch wide and less than 1/4 inch thick.
->
-> Ah, ok. A bit gelatinous and made of bone fish scrap'd to make a paste
then
-> formed with egg or tofu to a paste that then holds it's form. It's
brushed
-> with various sauces then grilled. I like the hot oil and bits of garlic
with
-> that one. The hot oil may be one of the things you looked at and didnt
know
-> what it was. A red oil (very distinctly red) and quite hot, as if you
pressed
-> it from chiles. It may have floating bits of garlic and other things in
it.
-> Apt to have been at the table too. Much like we have a salt and pepper
shaker,
-> they have that.
->
the fish cake was not gelatinous at all...but quite good anyway (grin). and
I'm very familiar with korean hot oil...and didn't see it but I'm sure it
was there somewhere!

-> >> If you show up we'll go! The biggest trouble for me is that there's
so

->
-> HN> I made such a pig out of myself I was uncomfortable afterwards
(grin)!
-> HN> I don't usually do that, but there was SO much to explore! chat with
y
->
-> I know the feeling! I'd wear a loose elastic waist skirt to such a
dinner, but
->
-> then, I can get away with that <g>.
->                                        xxcarol

I think I'll buy suspenders before I go there again! (grin)
chat with you soon
