So sorry to hear about what must have been a rough one, Shawn. Hope your
recovery is fast.

I bet!  Hope the pain meds help!  Can you imagine this one.. my Mom can't take
any painkillers period.. they have the opposite reaction on her.. I don't know
how she dealt with the surgeries, etc. she's had in life :(

====================== French Toast ========
1 loaf home made potato bread
6 eggs
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup milk
Confectioner's sugar
About 2-3 cups fresh berries (cherries cut in half, blueberries, or
blackberries, alone or in combination)

In a small bowl, sprinkle confectioner's lightly over the berries. Cover the
berries with plastic wrap, and refrigerate to allow juices to accumulate.

Cut the loaf of potato bread in thick slices, about 2 inches thick.

Beat the eggs with the milk and vanilla.

Heat 1 tablespoon butter or oil in a 10 inch frying pan. Dip the bread in the
egg mixture covering it well, and gently shake off the excess egg.
Cook about 2-3 minutes on each side, turning once. As you remove them from the
pan, dust one side with confectioner's sugar.

Serve the French Toast with the sweetened fruit spooned on top.


================== Potato Bread===========
Two 8x4 inch loaves

1/4 cup room temperature water
2 teaspoons yeast
3/4 cup potatoes, mashed and cooled to room temperature 1 1/2 cups potato
water, at room temperature 2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
4 1/2-5 cups bread flour
scant 1/4 teaspoon tumeric
butter or olive oil


Dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup water.  Allow to sit for about 5 minutes.

Mix the potato water, 2 tablespoons olive oil, the salt and the mashed
potatoes. Stir in the yeast mixture gently.

Put the flour in a large bowl and stir in the tumeric until well mixed. Add the
water/potato mixture and knead for 10 minutes, making a soft dough.

Let the dough rise covered in an oiled bowl for about an hour and a half. Punch
the dough down and knead for a few minutes to redistribute the yeast. Cut the
ball of dough in half, and shape into two loaves.

Put olive oil or vegetable oil in the bread pans and place the shaped loaves in
the pans. Turn the loaves over in greased pans to coat with oil. Cover with a
damp towel.

Allow the bread to rise a second time, about 30 minutes. Bake in a 400° oven
for about 20 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350° and bake for 20 minutes more
or until the loaves are golden, and sound hollow when tapped.

When the bread is done, remove it from the bread pans and lay each loaf on its
side on a rack.

Rub a stick of butter over all sides of the loaves. Wrap each loaf with wet
paper towels. Allow the loaves to cool like this to make a soft crust.
