I'm trying to relate this to my own experience. I'd have
thought that the military had some serious P.T. standards,
and, wow, I'm surprised at some of the things you're saying.

With the standards you describe below, having anyone on the list
who's over fat would be a disaster, militarywise. I can see
a computer tech or a food reviewer at 36% body fat, but anyone
expected to do anything related to fighting, forget it.

[I'd probably have failed a run requirement even when I was in
shape and could do a 20-mi hike with backpack. Some of us just
cannot run. Just to keep from being to sanctimonious about this.]

I'm at 18% and I have just a small amount more than what I would
consider an ideal amount of padding (my ideal waist size is only
1" smaller than my current one). I went to a site and did the
calcs and found that I'd have to weigh 90 more lbs and have
another 12" on my waist to have 36% body fat. As I said, that is
perfectly fine for some folks (okay, not perfectly, as there are
usually health consequences), but it doesn't comport with the
image of our defense forces,

   A rather effective manouver as we've

So you're saying that your command adheres to a higher standard
of honor than most of the navy, it sounds like. Bully for you,
both for not shipping out your own problem cases and for trying
to solve them in house, but shame on the rest of them!

Cold spicy shrimp
cat: starter, shellfish, healthy
servings: 4 to 8

1 lb md shrimp, peeled, deveined
1 hd bibb lettuce
h - dressing
1/2 c tamari
1/4 c brown sesame oil
1 in ginger, peeled, minced
1 habanero, chopped
2 garlic cloves, smashed and minced
2 scallions, sliced

Parboil shrimp 3 min; shock in ice water. Drain.

Whisk together dressing ingredients.

Clean lettuce; tear into small pieces and arrange
on a small platter. Top with shrimp, spoon dressing
over, and serve.

M's note: too much sesame oil by 50%.
