But those things are so glycemic I'd have thought you'd
have to avoid them. Otherwise I'd say, bibim pop, hold
the hot sauce.

I was thinking about the lower-hopped beers and their quenching
quality, and Carol and I were at Duclaw's brewery, and I had a
Misfit Red, being thirsty and not in the mood for high hoppage.
It was (as usual) a nice enough brew, but I immediately regretted
my choice. I really do NEED higher hopping than that. If you want
low hops, just drink ginger ale or root beer.

 -> the cooking is really good, and the owner and his wife and daughter
 -> are about the loneliest people I know. It's not going downhill,
 -> it never had any patronage, and it wasn't an "off" day, foodwise.

There is no competition in that (upscale) price range in that
location. It is by far the best food in the area. I think that
probably it's a bad match between the aspirations of the chef
and those of the neighborhood. There's not a whole lot I can
do about someone's incredibly boneheaded business plan
(especially from many miles away). Too bad, as the food is
really quite good, and the daughter is really quite pretty.

CHOP CHAE (Chap chae - Korean-style noodle dish)
cat: Hawaiian, Korean, main, noodle
Yield: 6 servings

2 bundles long rice**
4 dried mushrooms
1/2 lb beef
1 md carrot
1 stalk celery
1 md onion
1/2 lb green beens
15 oz cn bamboo shoots
2 Tb sesame oil
2 Tb soy sauce
1 Tb sugar
1 ds pepper
1/4 ts MSG
1/4 c water

** M's note: must be small bundles

Soak long rice and mushrooms in warm water for 30 min. Cut beef
into thin 2" strips. Remove stems from mushrooms. Cut mushroom
caps and vegetables into thin strips or slices. Cut bundle of soaked
long rice in half and cook in 1 1/2 qt boiling water for 1 min;
drain thoroughly. In a large skillet, heat sesame oil. Fry beef for
1 min. Add vegetables; saute 2 min. Combine soy sauce, sugar,
salt, pepper, MSG, and water. Stir long rice and soy sauce mixture
into vegetables; cook 1 to 2 min.
