I used to love all those thrill rides when I was a kid, but after I met a few
CArnies I wasn't so sure. ONe assured me though when he saw me looking rather
green after going on one with my kids that I was safer on the ones they break
down and put back together every week when they move from town to town than I
was on the rides at those theme parks where they set 'em up at beginning of
season and don't inspect them again all
year.

RH> were in HI.

This guy used to tell folks that they might have seen the ROnco commercials,
but these were the real deal and they were the cheap imitation. WHEn I bought
them I was doing the "yah right" thing but the price was so darned good I
couldn't pass it up. Paring knife, good butcher knife, four steak knives; a
couple of other good cullinary tools.

RW> I'd lost a bunch of good culinary tools and equipment to first wife

RH> No fun. We had a cheap set that Steve bought in Monterey while

RH> serrated paring and regular paring I got at a hardware store in
RH> Guendelwald, Switzerland for the equal of maybe $7.50, total. I
RH> also had a good knife I got at a yard sale for $1 that the handle
RH> has been repaired several times. Now we're beginning to assemble a
RH> set of better quality cutlery but I'm still keeping those 4.

Kathy had a good set before the house fire after Katrina. SO far though we
don't have any real decent cutlery. I don't abuse such tools and still I broke
the paring knife and one other out of this set. The one thing I do which taxes
a knife a bit is I like to cut nice thick wedges of COlby cheese to eat
alongside a sandwich now and then. THey can be a challenge for cheapo knives.
THose little wire cheese slicers do alright if you like nice little thin strip
slices of cheese, but I like a big chunky wedge of cheese to go along with my
sandwich occasionally <g>.

RW> watched this guy's demo and the price was reasonable. I actually
RW> liked that set, and it was still going strong when we split up 7 years
RW> later in 1988. I think I let her have it along with most of the
RW> kitchen stuff as I was going back on the road playi

RH> Probably better than the Ronco stuff then. We had to take advantage
RH> of their free replacement program on one within about 18 months. I
RH> think as we replace with what we really want, we'll get rid of that
RH> set.

I never bother to ask for replacements of cheap junk like that. I figure if it
breaks under normal wear and tear then I really don't want to deal with it.

That still has to be best set of cutlery I've ever owned. YEs I think I did
get the stone out to sharpen a couple of them, but I've always believed in
taking care of my knives and keeping a good edge on them. Old grandpa always
taught me if you take care of your tools properly they'll take care of you <g>.

Regards,
           Richard
